Clone-A on a Sam440 would be fantastic, even without OS4.
With OS4, this would be ausome.

Regarding catweasel4 drivers, any news on the OS4 ones?
I would really like to use a cat4 on my A!.

some guy over at a.org mentioned something about tripple-A (AAA), the chipset told to be on one of the devboards in the movie "The Deathbed Vigil"- But was it ever released in any form?

There will be updated CW4/CW3 driver for AmigaOS4, I’m working on the CatFloppy disk ripper GUI, its now completely reaction based (Iconify support), and now it requires CW.device, there is some problems whit the CW.device and CrossDOS, I have no clue at what’s wrong, any way the CW.device is open-source and can be fixed by anyone whit the skills to do so, the CatFloppy GUI will be close sourced from now on as I have taken out all the GPL code.

The cw.device supports 720kb, 880kb, 1.44mb, 1.78mb disksizes, CatFloopy program provides a way to lowlevel format the disks in the right formats, because Workbench format tool only uses the format reported by cw.device and not a user defined format.

No driver for Joysticks unless some one sends me a free joystick and some one helps me out whit a skeleton/dummy driver for Amiga Input.

Jens: has the A-Clone got the pot (analogue) inputs for the joystick port? (The Minimig doesnt as standard, but as your designing it from scratch... )
Nice to know its moving along so fast.

Sounds good. Is the cw.device released yet?
I searched OS4Depot and no results.

About the crossdos/cw.device problem, have you tried to contact the Crossdos maintainers. I am not sure who they are, but I know Tony Wyatt (TonyW) was involved with beta testing at some stage. He might be able to help.

Almost looks like the agnus has some ram on board too (make a nice 2Meg chipram upgrade )

Although if they are just using Altera FPGA's I fear its probably going to be just a DAC for the audio outputs like on the minimig.

These pictures look like a real A500 motherboard with FPGA circuit boards plugged into the custom chip sockets.. is that what it is?

Yes. They use a real A500 motherboard and clone the chips one by one to make sure each chip behaves exactly like the original.

Correct, the development is made on an A500 with all custom chips replaced by FPGA development boards - manufactured specifically for this purpose. This does NOT mean that Clone-A will be a product of this form. We're using it to test and develop the intellectual property, and the final product will use totally different hardware to run on - FPGAs have evolved in the meantime (there are three new generations already!), and with the right investor, a single-chip Amig can be built.

Bear in mind that 5V-tolerant FPGAs like the ones that we are using for development are way too expensive to be used as chip-replacements. The machine that we have shown last saturday is a few thousand EUR just in material cost (mainly prototyping PCBs), just to give you an idea what a product with those old FPGAs would cost in the end. Developing semiconductors is even more expensive. The route through FPGAs makes sure that the design is proven and the first shot will work properly - this saves a lot of money!

The fact that we're testing on an A500 does not mean that we're building this "low cost model" only. Remember that the Amiga chipset stayed the same until the A3000, so with the intellectual property that we have gained already, we can also produce high-spec Amigas. One of the next steps is AGA, so the A4000 is well within reach.

The Clone-A looks like it is turning into in absolutely stunning success! Think of the possibilities!! My head swims!! This is becoming the most anticipated new Amiga product to me since getting my first A500 and no I am not joking. It hasn't even been announced what form the end product will come in, assuming there is an inhouse end product of course.

May I speculate to uses? Oh BTW Jens, you gotta find a way to make replacement custom chips. At least the Buster! Big Box Amigas need a replacement Buster! Amiga Classic users would pay $100 for an updated Buster.
