From what I have read it should be able to boot Amiga OS in 1 second!

Well done. NatAmi is a very interesting system for the people that hadn't an Amiga 4000, but the great question, I hope that the board will be manufacture in big number of units and its price will be good and interesting.

Unfortunaty the first run of boards that will use the 060 processor and will be the "developer" board, as far as I can remember they will only be available in limited numbers and costs are projected to be about the same as for an AmigaOne (costs are high due to the small board run and the cost of the 060 and the FPGA's)

I do wish though that it could be cheaper and that the team do do a large enough run of boards so that non-developers can get hold of one just for everyday use.

I dont expect them to do anything more than a few hundred at most though and I hope I am lucky enough to be able to afford/get hold of one to replace my 1200

That's awesome news. I can't wait to get the later version containing the ColdFire CPU with all the Amiga custom chips, networking and Super AGA integrated right into the CPU. It is essentially an Amiga-on-a-Chip. Intel and AMD are working on similar products or System-on--a-Chip products (SOC). This essentially will bring Amiga hardware into the 21st century.

There is no mention of USB or Ethernet in the HW-specification. I guess we have to use the 2 PCI's for these?

Following evaluation and discussions on compatability, it was decided to by the Natami team build a new 68k compatable chip into the FPGA.

The chip dubbed N68070 should offer more speed and better compatablity than an 68060.

That custom 68070 chip being designed by the Natami team is a ColdFire core with the additional logic of the Amiga custom chipset including SuperAGA embedded into the design. The Natami 68070 designation is not to be confused with the successor to the 68060......completely different CPU but both are still 68K backward compatible.

Correct. By not using Coldfire, the NatAmi team will be avoiding the risk of Freescale deciding that they're too small a customer and cutting them off (the V5 Coldfires NatAmi would be using would have to be customised by Freescale, because of the way V5 Coldfire is marketed, so there's no off-the shelf alternative).

Another advantage is that the NatAmi team will also have full control over the CPU's design, so they can expand the instruction set to include things like SIMD (cf MMX, AltiVec) and techniques used in other CPUs to optimize branching, etc. All this while remaining 100% M68K compatible, as opposed to the route Coldfire took.
