Varthall and me have a debate in which we argue if the guy searched just for "Amiga" keyword and so Google reported all occurencies, included also the search made for the spanish term "Girlfriend" (Varthall opinion) or if he was enough smart to search directly for "AmigaOS", as at least he was trained in Operating Systems usage (mine opinion)

As "Amiga" (female friend, girlfriend) in spanish is a very common term, so the google hits must be very very very high, and surpass more than any Operating System related google trend (with the exception of "Windows"), as Spanish is spoken by over a milliard (US "Billion") people worldwide, in Spain (50 millions), whole Latin America (600 millions), Philippines (200 millions) and including in this number almost 50 millions Spanish native speakers people in USA.

just as smart as when newspapers cite that an person like "michael jacksson" has 3434343434 homepages just because altavista returned that many hits when someone searched for michael jacksson or something simular...

Spanish and Portuguese Amiga means the same Amiga=Friend

He must used the AMIGA as reference only for computing because it clearly states that the interest is very very low. Otherwise, if he included the spanish/portguese version of Amiga, then the results would be enormous from all that porno sites, e.g. "Hot Latin Amiga" :)

OK, I will perform a serch of the above keyword/phrase on youporn and I will let you know the results

So in the end, the guy who made this little google survey must had searched for "AmigaOS", rather tha simply "Amiga" or else the google trend stats must had shown a line of trend climbing enormously over any other OS with the obvious exception of "Windows".

Judging from the blog owner's comment in the page you linked, it seems that he has searched for "Amiga", and I have also tried a search myself with both "Amiga" and "Amiga os" and the results were much lower than the ones on the blog. I agree that the results for Amiga should be much higher, it might be due to a language filter set by Google.

But making compare words "amiga" (which in even in russian mean many thinks and have some internet shoops called "amiga"). In other words too popular word to make any results based on it.

Well now I seem to remember windows having another meaning in english besides M$'s favorite os! ;) Same goes for for the Apple Macintosh or should I say the macintosh apple? I have personally searched for real windows many more times then "girl friend".

The problem with using "AmigaOS" is that there is no consistancy with the term. All of the following could be relevant depending on what you're trying to compare:

AmigaOS
Amiga OS
OS3.x
OS4
OS4.x
OS4.1
OS5

amiga was also a popular record label in former ddr (eastern germany). i wonder if this has some impact on this subject.

Clicking through to the google trends page, the Amiga searches are mostly coming from Latin American countries. We know that most Amiga users live in Europe and North America and very few in Latin American countries (just check the ClustrMap on my website), although there is a Brasilian Amiga community site.

What I'd like to know is why people would search for "girlfriend" on Google. Shouldn't you be looking for them in the real world?

Have a look at the search volumes for these keywords in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and the USA. In particular, look at the volumes for languages other than Spanish and Portuguese. In some cases, the Amiga search volume does exceed that of the other OSes for these languages.

It's a pity that Google trends doesn't have a "filter by language" option. Likewise, it would be nice to be able to select larger geographical regions (e.g., Europe).

One final odd trend is the increase in searches for Amiga in the USA since the last quarter of 2007. Could this be Amiga OS related, or are American guys just getting desperate.
