I wonder how many programs rely on hard task priorities for synchronization and that will need a special sheduler set for them...

The current scheduler is a simple round-robin scheduler and it has served us fairly well over the last 25 years. We won't be losing the round-robin scheduler but instead adding the possibility for additional schedulers. The introduction of multi-core support makes this the perfect time to invest in the scheduler.

I remember having great fun with the schedulers the were provided by the old Executive package by Petri Nordlund. This will be a similar enhancement but of course done at the Exec level instead of as a 3rd party hack as Petri was forced to do.

It has been too long now but I think I only had good luck with one of the schedulers Executive provided on my A3000/060 box. The other schedulers did little or nothing to improve the overall user experience. It will be really interesting to see how a modern AmigaOS box will behave with different schedulers.

By this you mean that the round-robin scheduler and others could be available at the same time and the user can select/configure which to use?

If that is the case, may I suggest a prefs panel for that? Not just where you can select and configure which one to use but also maybe with a tab (for us not so experienced with schedulers) with preconfigured settings, with the best scheduler and best values for a specific situation. Like for example, using OS4.x in a developer environment (background compilation while still able to web browsing or editing files o images comfortably) or for office/home use or for web/file/printer server. Does it make sense?

I think testing will reveal what will make the most sense. Until actual test data is available we can't really make any informed decisions on what will be best. However, given this is AmigaOS, you can bet there will be more knobs and buttons to play with.

how about to run classic os4.1 on ppc and debian on 68k all at the same time, or other way around? could that be seen as multiprocessor support on amiga?;=)
