| The program is freeware, no license needed.
I took over the OS4 version from Alfred Faust, and I hope to gradually get it up to date. Small steps, a little at a time. _________________ question=(2b||!(2b))

| Ok ;) But does that mean that you will not release the cource code ? I just think it would benefit all and it would be kind of strange to suddenly keep it closed not being all your work after all. |

| I have no plans to distribute the source code at this time.
I'm not sure how having a variety of different versions on the same platform would be helpful. Given the complexity of the original program, combined with the changes that have been needed to make it run on a more modern system, I'm actually pretty sure that keeping a single source tree is the best way to go.

| Well, I don't think that is up to you and don't see why you should realy care about that as long as you only take care of the AmigaOS 4 version. For me this is why even source code released as freeware should still have licence. |

You can think whatever you like, that is beyond my control.

I have invested a great deal of time in this port. Why wouldn't I care?

The source code does have a license, but no part of that license requires that I release the source code.
I have no plans to release the source code at this time.Last edited by lylehaze on 23-Jun-2013 at 01:32 AM.

| Thanks Lyle !
@Nikosidis
Who do you think you are ? Why do you think Lyle should give his work for free to you ?
You want the source code ? Do as Lyle did, go and take the original and work (ask Alfred Faust) on it ! And try to obtain the same result as Lyle instead of hoping to take other people's work. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz

| Are you serious!!
It is suddenly like Lyle took the credit for the whole program. Why did he not write it from scratch himself. Even if he modified it and made it better it should be open for others since bars'n'pipes is a free program. Thank god that most programs that is open source have to stay that way.
Mod's note: @nikosidis -- Lyle has been very honest and upfront with his contribution to the OS4 version of the Bars 'n' Pipes project. Your continued badgering of the OP over several posts has resulted in an A/R being processed against you. In future, please respect that not everyone is willing to give away their hard work and expertise for free. The fact that LyleHaze has graciously offered his OS4 version to the general public via OS4Depot should be commended not condemned. Last edited by Yo on 08-Jul-2013 at 09:10 AM.

| Thanks Lyle, ill try it out and see how it behaves.
Im both with Lyle and Nikosidis. Some sources are open while others the developers keeps if there are much own work. Its the same on most amiga systems. The original code is still open i think. Lyle probably wants to have a version that works good and no bugs before he decides what to do with the sources, even if i think his will stay as os4. |

Honestly, the reactions of Lyle do not sound like he would even think about releasing sources in future. If that is covered by the license/agreement then it is legally and nobody can do anything about it but these attitudes generally do not improve the interest for corporation between the camps. Just my 2 cents. |

| I asked for, and was given, source for the OS4 port of BarsnPipes. There are ports for most, if not all Amiga-Like systems.
I only asked for the OS4 port because OS4 is the system I use personally.
Since I only asked for the OS4 version, I have no plans to cross develop to other systems. That would be outside of the original request I made, which was for custody of the OS 4 port. It would also cause compatibility problems for the people maintaining the other BarsnPipes ports.
It's not some grand conspiracy, it's simply that I am only developing the OS4 port of BarsnPipes, and I will respect the boundaries under which my original request was granted.
I am NOT taking full credit for the app, and anyone who actually downloaded and ran the app would see that.
There have been hundreds of hours spent on improving the code as it is now. I am proud of my work and happy to share it freely with the community. And I must say that responses like these really put a damper on my prospects for continued development.
If all I'll get in response to my work is complaints, why bother?
I'd like to thank you all for helping me to celebrate this release. _________________ question=(2b||!(2b))

| Thanks for all the hard work and the great releases, my friend! This one is a great gift to those of us who still use AmigaOS after all these years. Looking forward to your eventual release of Score, too.
Snazzy-looking new icon design for this BarsnPipes release. Love it. _________________

| keep up the good work and that's coming from someone that even doesn't have an OS4 machine ...
If the original author doesn't require you to share your code ... I see no reason why you should if you don't want that _________________ - Proud Member Of The Belgian Amigaclub Since 2003 -

| Nice work Lyle. Ignore the open source mafia, it being the AmigaOS 4.x version it's of no use to them anyway.
I tried to get it working with SoftSyn but got no sound.
I did get it to work with phonolith, so I must some issue with softsyn maybe. Couldn't see a way to choose audio ode with softsyn. _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad

| I had no sound either but then used GeneralUser sounfont first (comes with softsyn), changed environment default CAMD input/output to GeneralUser.sf2 and its alive! _________________ Sam440ep-flex 800MHz 1GB RAM R9250 128MB SB Live!

| All:
I regret my earlier reply.
I am here to celebrate Amiga, and I intend to continue in my celebration.
I have said many times that we are all here for the same reason: We love Amiga, or at least enjoy it a lot.
There are many flavors of Amiga, and we are each free to choose which ones we use.
I think it's important to remember that attacking those with a different opinion is destructive to the entire community.
Just my two cents. _________________ question=(2b||!(2b))

HA? Same here...making noise now after pumping up the volume...
@Lyle
Thanks for this update. Had some colour hassles with an 8 bit screen mode (Radeon HD), but works nicely with 16 and 32 bit modes, though. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000
