i think mikej has reported that he is starting delivery and clearing path for high volume production few days ago on aorg. some part on some of the boards made apparently a rework necessary. but the most exciting is hopefully upcoming 060 accelerator card for that board along with other possible extensions.

even though im not eager to get it any soon myself i consider it truly great news!

Really nice and price isn't too high for what it is. I'd probably buy one right now if I had the cash spare.

If it's "on sale", as the news title suggests, then where can I order one?

its just a hundred units or so this time. i think preorders are being served first. likely you have to contact mikej via mail, or at least post on aorg to get further info. all in all it still reminds sorta private kind of business, like x1k, except the pricing, long delivery after payment and few other details. and also the parts are guaranteed not any close to be eol, as its been confirmed, so higher volume runs seems to be in planing.

This motherboard whit out casing and there is no 060 accelerator attached. So you need another 100 Euro for the casing plus PSU, and you need a 68060 accelerator that going to be expensive. I guess final price is going to be around 500 Euro ex taxes, whit tax and shipment it's going to be around 650 Euro.

And you don't get any expansion lots, no Ethernet controller, and no SATA controller.

So what is expensive? It depends on what you think something is worth, and if you can afford it or not.

Do you really?

@ NutsAboutAmiga

I don't think most people care about lack of 060, ethernet and SATA.

If you want a high performance system then an NG system is better.

@NutsAboutAmiga

so far i remember this board will even be open sourced, so if it is too expensive for you you may assemble it yourself. this board can substitute a number of systems except amiga, which in most cases came and dont need such goodies like sata or ethernet. instead a sdcard for mass storage and appropriate ports for the tasks its meant for sounds like a sensible choice. modern expansions you ask for, save sata, will be provided by the daughterboard (usb2, ethernet) among other features. have look at this:
http://www.minimig.net/yaqube/images/RPX060PCB3.JPG

and here a video for performance of the fpgaarcade with the daughterboard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug4_yh3Q288
it stamps power macs of the first generation right into the ground. if this isnt impressive, id dont know what is.

im not buying into anything amiga right now. i rather try to lighten up my storage. and it this particular case i prefer to stick to my genuine amigas, since for one they offer me a unchallenged feature that still allows me to use them professionally to certain extent (genlock ability) and secondly im regularly testing aros68k (and other stuff) and i prefer to test it against genuine hardware.

Well AGA demos need the power, I guess most games will do fine as it quicker than an A1200 whit out 060 card, but let's say you want to play Alien Bread 3D, Genetic Species, Nemac IV, and maybe some other 3d games, then you really need 060.

It is the same situation with any 68k Amiga hardware. Maybe in the future their will be a cheap FPGA that can do 68k faster than a real 060. There is still lots of software that you can appreciate without that power for now.

Hard to say, but really think FPGA are as modem as they get, improvement in transistor technology can help, I believe FPGA will always have more latency (because the chip is reprogrammable) than a normal chip, what can be done whit FPGA's are pretty cool none the less.

I guess for type nostalgic software, people are using it's no problem, kind a agree whit Franko about that, if you use it for what it was designed for you be happy. But if you want to surf the web or see movies you need the extra computer power.

Similar performance as lower clocked PowerPC601 (60, 66 and 80 MHz) is something one expect from 100+ MHz 68060. Other than that, it does indeed look impressive.

You do get Ethernet 100 on the 060 Daughtercard which I will be marrying as soon as it becomes available.

As soon as I can buy Replay+060 card I am buying one and my bank account is stuffed with $$$ to pay for it. I just hope it gets released soon.

My only complaint is it has no PCI slots to plug in a Radeon 256MB gfx card which has 2 different drivers available for AmigaOS.

With one of those cards plugged in you could more than double your ram and you get a massively faster blitter. And those cards are widely available for $100.00 or less. If only...

Yes, you can install AmigaOS3.1 on the FPGA Arcade Replay board. I am not sure about AmigaOS3.9, but I believe that MikeJ and others are working on adding any missing instructions to the softcore 68k cpu, so that it will be able to run AmigaOS3.9 as well as AmigaOS1.0 to 3.1.

Congrats MikeJ, on your success in finally being ready (almost ready) for mass production of the Replay boards. Really looking forward to the release of the 060 Daughterboards, hopefully in the very near future.

Okay, good to know, what would typical speed be like? Orginal 68020 14mhz speed?
What resolution for workbench is possible at okay speed. Do normal games resolution be upscaled to fit normal screen size mode you find on every lcd monitor?
And is this easy to setup? Wb,games,programs. Is the disk storage only with sd-card?

Sorry all the questions, i'm really interested

An unexpanded Replay should feel like at least a 25Mhz 030 due to the 3x to 4x chipram memory bandwidth (ditto for FastRam).

So its dreadfully slow compared to a real 040 or 060 but will seem zippy compared to an unexpanded A1200.

I don't have my replay yet but I have been studying it for a long time and also I don't know what your definition of "at good speed" means. I will just take a stab at a guess that 800x600x32-bit (16.7 million colors chunky) will seem "at good speed" to you.

As to the mass storage options, there is 1 mass storage option on the Replay herself. But if you buy the 060 Daughtercard then you get another different mass storage option. I can't remember the names of all these newfangled gizmo cards off the top of me head.

@noXLar
consider you can have up to 50mb chipram set, there was some video of how it performs somewhere in the aorg thread, but i couldnt manage to find it again, since the thread is so long.
@amigadave
as for the softcore i think it already has all necessary 020 instructions, in which case one could run up to 3.9 i guess. there was some problems with aros as ide had to be reworked for compatibility or something, but perhaps its solved by now, i dont know details.

thanks for the info, it sounds good so far, as for the 060 card, is it based on real 68060 CPU, or are we talking about a fpga with 060 softcore, and about how much would it cost. shown we run workbench in 800x600 32bit, how would classic games behave, would it will be scaled to fit screen?
