Not only do my Workbench window (default white) backdrops now have the graphical corruption previously reported on the Sam440 Flex (except my corruption lines are red), but sometimes the screen is going a patterned greeny-grey colour (looks a bit like a copper effect turned 90 degrees) requiring a hard reset |
So, finally I installed the QuickFix - the system seems to be faster, indeed. And the greeeen in Q2 - nice!
I don't have the "red lines" bug here, but - sadly enough - I had that "copper effect"/vertical coloured lines three or four times now (ca. one hour uptime now...). The system totally freezes, no sound output and only a hard reset is possible. I could not find a trigger for this yet, it seemed randomly. Hmmm...I will play with the sam440ep for some days and maybe a system rollback will be done (the sam was rather stable and behaved nicely before the update ).
[EDIT] Ha, this post was too early! Here they are - I'm the next victim of red lines in the windows (plus that mentioned "copper effect"). So, I'll try the tricks mentioned in this thread...Last edited by cha05e90 on 23-Jun-2009 at 07:44 PM.

The update works just fine on the micro, you need to change your cell battery, & yes, it does rear its ugly head just that quick.
Don't forget to set the h/w uboot variable after, a1ide_conf. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

I agree with Sundown that it is most likely a battery problem.
However, I did notice something odd in your original post ... At the conclusion of the installation, I did the soft reboot ...
The README file clearly states: A cold system reboot is required to activate the fixes which will be done automatically by the installer.
I used the default setting:
Novice User - All Actions Automatic
The installer did its thing and automatically performed a cold system reboot at the end.
No problems encountered. My system is functioning normally.

| Funny. The graphics corroption described and showed on the screenshots look just like the type of corruption I've had on my CVPPC and sometimes also CV64 since way back. I guess it's all part of the amiga experience _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC

| >I also still get hanged up on the red alert intro, nothing comes up after the intro, like >per usual.
at least the red alert intro problem is no OS4 fault.the intro player do random mem trash and intro should deactivate.
also the KI of openredalert is buggy, currently test 2 months ago KI was disabled but it run rock solid.
I wrote to the Author and he tell me that he want complete rewrite the KI.I see many code he do in java.
now i see in SVN some activity, but not test of KI now work.
without working KI, is play not usefull, because you always win.with Ki its buggy, and my hope is less, that openred alert some day get a working game.... |

I guess my original post was incorrect. At the conclusion of the installation I clicked on the reboot option. I guess I assumed that this was a soft reboot. But I did click on it, so I guess I really did a cold reboot. Sorry for the confusion. |

| I did not notice any significant increase in 3d performance either. OWB and such feels kinda smoother when scrolling and such though. The system in general feels slightly faster compared to before. |

This morning I did a cold boot and then my problems began. When doing the cold boot, the system scans the bus, loads kickstart, then I get a black screen, and then a screen comes up which says "OS4 Kernel (Kickstart Version 53.8)" and there is an animation of a floppy disk being inserted into the machine. Workbench never loads. |
I have a similar but different problem. At the point (I think) where Workbench loads, often the screen can go white or black or otherwise have a funny pattern, with a small square in the top left corner, and OS4 is unresponsive (even to Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga), requiring a hard reset. At that point it may start OK, or it may require another hard reset
V.annoying, as I never had this problem before the update. I suspect the new video driver is at fault, and intend to go back to the old one to see if that helps. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...

| Hello Greywolf, from Skynet, je,je,je, yes I use the metal skull from one T-600 that I saw the movie and I think that Skynet and the Terminators are using the Amiga OS why? because it the Skynet and the Terminators to half movie were crashed or freezes for other Windows problem (the flash blue screen, restart, etc.).
About the Quick Fix this weekend I'll want install it because I have other problem with my Notebook (it uses Windows MalaVista) and I have to put a new simm of 2 GB of memory because the original of 1 GB crashed and now I hope that with 3GB MalaVista walks because runs it is impossible, but the problem with the hardware PC manufactures that they only think in Windos as theirs salvation to avoid programming drivers.
And about Eye Viewer I'm very happy that you use it, I hope that soon the new version more faster is available for 68k and the compatible version for OS 4.1 that in the last update for several problems the program doesn't see the light.
Best regards friend. |

| I took my uA1c apart today and removed the battery which I am planning on replacing, but I have one question. The case on the battery said it was a 3 volt battery, but when I took my trusty multimeter and measured it, I read about 2.75 volts. Is it reasonable to assume that a 0.25 drop in the battery's voltage would cause my machine to act up? |

Without question. Yes.

A battery voltage of 2.85 will definately hang your computer. |
Anything less than that. Egads!

I have boot problems when my battery drops to 2.95V. A new battery should measure about 3.16V. The cell will hold a 3.1V charge for a long time before it drops. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

| I really regret that I installed the quickfix on my SAM (non flex). It became VERY unstable, graphic corruption, screen getting black, freezes and top of top, usb card-reader stopped working. Now I'm looking for my original CD in order to get back the original drivers, but I can't find it in the mess of my room... |

| @lucaricossa Sorry to hear that, but you should really back-up your computer as a matter of course, especially before an OS upgrade. I have a second OS partition, which I occasionally backup my main OS partition to, and that made it extremely easy to (a) find which files had changed, and (b) allows me to undo those changes. (Of course I also do a proper backup of all my partitions to separate HD.)
EDIT: If you PM me with your email address, I can supply an LHA archive containing the old/original OS4 files. Last edited by ChrisH on 25-Jun-2009 at 08:23 AM.

OK, I replaced my battery and my uA1c is more or less back to normal. I guess everyone was right about that. Thanks.
I did restore my boot partition to its state before I did the upgrade. I want to make sure I'm back to normal before doing the upgrade again.
In regards to that, is there a nice handy guide explaining exactly what needs to be set in uboot to what values?
My system is not quite back to normal. I seem to have lost audio. The Play16 command doesn't seem to work and prefs/sound can't seem to do anything either. Is there something in uboot that I may have overlooked?
Thanks. |
