Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : A1 OS4 Developer pre-release Install Guide
posted by JurassicC on 10-Apr-2004 18:10:59 (11085 reads)
The HTML procedure that will be included on the Amiga OS4 developer pre-release CD for the AmigaOne has been given to Amigaworld.net for viewing here.

The procedure is simple to follow and will walk users of all experience levels through the painless task of installing the developer pre-release on to an AmigaOne.

I would also like to thank the OS4Beta Testers who gave me feedback during the production of this guide / procedure, you know who you are, Thanks.

Without the OS4 Development team this would never have been possible.

Thank you!

No Eva among my personalities, sorry to disappoint you, dude..so the marriage is off, I'm afraid. And no, I still have no intention to "do a neekid trek/streak across AWorld", so no luck there either, ol' chap..

Brilliant gif-anim! Really brilliant!

Now, let's just hope this isn't just another stall tactic.. "Let's leak the install guide, that'll keep 'em occupied for a few more days, at least."

A lot of steps for such a small task. Can't Hyperion make some of these steps (2 & 3) disappear? Isn't the OpenFirmware capable of letting a CD boot by itself?

Is it like this under 3.9?

Section 8 has to be my favourite

Looks nice and written without making assumptions about the level of AOS knowledge which is good from the point of view of making the platform more accessible.

You obviously never installed OS 3.5 or 3.9 on a bare system ...

Right. Better to not assume that "everyone should already know that". This way, if you know it, just skip those obvious steps to the other parts. But I'm sure that some will need the full details.

Okay, now the thing to work around is how to retain any required usability & data residing with Debian on the hard drive.

Is the BEST option just to fit a second HDD for AmigaOS4.0? I'd heard (from my dealer) that this install will allow Dual-Boot . . . . is that confirmed?

Thats a good question that I would like an answer for as well. I've spent a great deal of time & anger setting up Debian .. Its actually quite usable now .. would like the option of keeping using it.

I have been running Uboot 1.0 for a while, and yes, it supports DUAL-BOOT
So it will be possibly to continue to use the Debian/YDL/Suse/Gentoo/whatever Linux-distro your running ATM. together with OS4.

I don't think it should be any problem for someone who's managed to get Debian working.

From the Amiga OS4 installer html guide:

Quote:
However, if you previously created a RDB partitioned hard disk, with some free space available for OS4, then please proceed to the add AmigaOne booter steps below and then on to partition steps to add your OS4 partition in the available space.

@jurassiccamper

If it's not too late, in section 6, paragraph 6, could you change "loose" to "lose"?
