Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : We're moving to Europe
   posted by DaveyD on 17-Sep-2004 0:02:57 (6512 reads)
We're moving to a faster server in Europe within the next few days, this is due to poor support at our current server provider and the need for a faster server based in Europe where most of our users are from.

There may be some downtime during this crossover period, but will we keep it down to a minimum.

Update: We have now moved

@The_Editor

Yes being an Amigan is an educational experience. I look up these places on maps and try to learn a little about all the places in the "Amigaworld". I look up the places where the events are held, and any other locations mentioned. Amigans are spread out pretty thinly all over the globe, but they are everywhere.

@Mikey_C

Native born American here, but I do have a last name ending in the letters "eau" and there is a good deal of that in Canada as well. So there maybe some french canadian blood running through my veins.

Who is AW going with?

I use Webfusion, part of thr HostEurope group, now part of the Pipex group! Not the cheapest in the world, but high performance, with excellent support. I have emailed them early hours of the morning and has a reply within the hour.

ah. But think how your Uk Geography has improved.

Learning is good. Using the Amigaworld events calendar, I see that I will be learning about Budapest, Hungary this weekend. I don't know much about Hungary, except that "Rachy" is there coding furiously. I will read a little about the country, the city of Budapest, and what people out that way do for fun.

It's interesting to see where these places are and view some pictures of local attractions. If the Amigans are gathering and I cannot be with them, I look up some pictures of what they'll be seeing in the city of the event. It helps me feel solidarity with the members of this Amigaworld. It gives me something to do while I wait for any pictures or reports from the event.

@DaveyD

I was in the Army in the seventies and spent three years in Augsburg, Germany. Only 40km from the Beer fests of Munich. It was rough service.

In 2008 I can retire from the job that paid for my Amiga hobby all these years. Finally, they'll pay me and I won't have to go there anymore. That's four years to come up with an easy to use OS and some applications for me to use in my old age. I think we'll make it.

I'm thinking of going on an Around the Amiga World tour in 2009. Let the Amigaworld.net calendar of Amiga events still be here! I would be willing to make travel plans based on Amiga events to see how many Amiga happenings I could work in. I was thinking about putting up a web site with my travel journal and photos.

Maybe there is something about being an older Amigan that makes me more patient then the youngsters. For one thing the price of my A1 system was the same amount I paid for my A1000 in 1985, so that doesn't bother me. I don't code but having the Pre-release running here and watching the stuff on OS4 Depot appear and hearing of the Update, gives me great hope for the future. (I'm pretty sure "When It's Done" < 2009. I want some Amigas for my retirement. (HINT: The eyesight is one of the first thing to go, I need BIG fonts to keep the reading glasses off my nose.) I don't want to be fooling around with windows or linux, life is to short.

@Bodies
Try to get Amiga Downunder on the calendar for 2009, and I'll come see you.

If the server has now moved, how come the IP address is 69.64.33.58 which resolves to the USA ?

Just wondering if I'm now looking at the wrong site ?

The domain is still on the US server, however I am masking the IP address of the new server with the domain on the old server using an html frameset until the DNS has updated. You will see the IP address of the new server when you mouseover the links, the IP will appear in the status bar. This means everything is downloading from the new server

As I'm the 1st to be boring, maybe I'll get away with this:

Pinging amigaworld.net [69.64.33.58] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 69.64.33.58: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=51
Reply from 69.64.33.58: bytes=32 time=114ms TTL=51
Reply from 69.64.33.58: bytes=32 time=120ms TTL=51
Reply from 69.64.33.58: bytes=32 time=114ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 69.64.33.58:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 112ms, Maximum = 120ms, Average = 115ms

Pinging 62.193.232.12 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 62.193.232.12: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=53
Reply from 62.193.232.12: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=53
Reply from 62.193.232.12: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=53
Reply from 62.193.232.12: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=53

Ping statistics for 62.193.232.12:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 43ms, Maximum = 45ms, Average = 44ms

COOL, That's around 60% faster (if I've got my maths right) I ain't complaining

Well I have 2 accounts, an ecommerce one, costing 500 pounds a year for 1GB of space and all the tools you can want.

The second is also 500 pounds but is a reseller account.

Well, maybe if the game servers ever go back up, you will get a nice ping back to the server.
