Our thanks should go to Max & Libero for the creation of this driver: it brings AOS4.0 that much more up to date with other OS-offerings. On one hand it makes my decision about buying an A1 that much easier again (but then again, could it ever exceed the 100% mark anyway?). On the other it may retard that act just even by so much as I may wait for an A1-mobo with the Sil3112A chip to turn up. Mind, the bank notes are turning redhot in my rear pocket.
But as to the plea for SCSI-support in AOS4.0: I fully endorse it! As I too do have a vast set of SCSI-devices laying idle, but some are brand new. Some HD's (2.odd GB), some ZIP's (100Mb), a Plextor 40x CD-ROM, a Plextor CD-RW with some impressive figures on the bezel, etc., etc.
Just my 2 cents...
Regards,

I think (but I could be wrong) that you should include Stephane in the list. He is the one that actually wrote the driver. The other two supplied the PCI card and drive. |

| This is why motherboards should have 10-15 pci connectors and no onboard stuff. There is always new things comming out that requiers a pci slot.
And in the amiga market you don't buy a new amiga every second year. Atleast i don' think so.
Great work. |

| Cheaper than the Sil0680? I think not. 30% more expensive here in Norway.
Still, very nice to see more drivers _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). | great news , i don't have an A1 but on my pc 2600+ i use the onboard serial ata (sil 3112) with 2x 120GB SATA and it works great .
+ sata drives are the faster available + dvd writers are available on sata ( no advantage but it's good to know ) + the sata connector is tiny + for once we have a solution for the future
- don't expect a big performance increase (under windows it's not worth the pain , but maybe with OS4 ) - only a few drives support Tagged command queueing not all it seems - the first sata drives comes with a bridge satapata on the pcb , and external bridge are not perfect ...sometimes it works, sometimes not (useful for PATA optic drives )
I've heard of future SCSI drives with SATA connectors and compatibility with sata ? someone know more about that ? i'm thinking more and more about a µA1 more drivers and it will be a good solution .... |

Actually there are many that believe that SATA will kill SCSI once and for all! |
But isn't SCSI developped any further?
OTOH I thought SCSI HD were much more reliable than IDE HDs that's why server mainly use SCSI HDs. (But I think that isn't so important for homeusers like us) _________________ A computerworld without MS products and Windows! Is it possible to connect several SATA HD in serial connections like SCSI or the former C=64 devices? _________________ A computerworld without MS products and Windows! moreover, I don't see tht point in having SATA 300 or 600... it's already 150MB/sec per peripheral...so anyone knows a peripheral which achieves more than 150MB/sec ??? |
So what's the use of these speeds? 150MB/sec is a theoretical value which won't be achieved under normal usage. And the PCI bus on A1 doesn't have this speed either. The max transfertrate for PCI bus is 100MB/sec or am I wrong here? _________________ A computerworld without MS products and Windows! No. With SiI3112A you can use two SATA devices only. |

The max transfer rates for the PCI bus are: 132MB/s for 32-bit 33MHz PCI, 264MB/s for 32-bit 66MHz PCI, 264MB/s for 64-bit 33MHz PCI, 528MB/s for 64-bit 66MHz PCI. |

| Hmm, maybe I am missing something but how would having SATA support in UBoot make the u-A1 more or less "envious" from other SFF computers?
Many of the new SFF PC motherboards are coming with a SATA controller onboard, and the u-A1 does not....if it did however, I could agree with your point. Otherwise, the last thing I want to have to put in my "1" PCI slot is a disk controller, but maybe that's just me!

| I am really very happy that this news is been several agreeable, I hope soon of to post a news with features and photograph of the cards SATA used and how many more news on costs and availability. Tomorrow I should succeed to put on my site the references of the cards SATA and UATA with chipset silicon image in economical versions and deluxe (premium accessoriate) and relevant prices.
To this am secure that they will follow other projects. It is for a long time that I and Massimiliano Tretene we are cooperating to support much more amiga and its users, making available time and it structures. Still thanks for the support that given us.
