Atm G3 loose frame rate indeed but thats because there is no overlay (etc)yet , this will happen shortly... |
No no, a microA1 with a 750FX (G3) running at 800MHz can play DVDs with ~80-90% CPU load without overlay. The 750Gx is even faster. |

DO NOT GO FOR PLASMA OR LCD TV. |
A guy I spoke to recently was suggesting that Plasma was merely a stop gap technology to satisfy the market until decent LCDs could be developed at the necessary size.
Not sure if that holds any water or not _________________ Folding@Home Team AmigaWorld no: 33424

You might be interested in this. Basically, LCDs will soon be able to go up to about 40 inches, which ATM is the kind of size that you'd want plasma for. Wwhen that happens, plasma manufacturers will either have to cut their prices fast or move ever more upmarket. _________________

Indeed, plasma and lcd sucks when it comes to image quality but there's an upper size limit to CRT technology. Have a look at DLP technology instead, it's a form of back projection tv. It's a lot cheaper than plasma or LCD and the image quality is vastly superior. _________________

| Dudes.... Excuse my ignorance....but...errr... what is 'overlay'? Does it require an additional video card? I thought a major attribute of the microA1s was the built in video, so it better be able to play DVDs with this 'overlay' thingy you're talking about.
Guessing, is that 'overlay' just video ram that is directly accessible. _________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. Commodore/AMIGA "Beautiful, High-Performance, Home Computers for Creativity and Entertainment."

| The case looks very nicely designed, however IMO the main advantage of the MicroA1 boards is it's very compact size and the casing is quite big compared to most Mini-ITX cases.
For instance the Travla C134 Mini-ITX Case (EPIA M) has the following measurements: 177.8mm x 50.8mm x 254mm
So almost half the size in all 3 directions!

| Sure it's smaller, but......
- only slimline CD/DVD - only 2.5" HD - no further expansion possible - limited airflow (may turn a major problem with the G3+fan used on the mikroA1) - it may even be that the fan blocks HD or CD/DVD, but thats impossible to tell from just one pic _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada

I don't think that people will be buying MicroA1 boards for maximum expand ability, similar like was the case for people using A1200 casings. Sure, you could also mount MicroA1s into huge ATX cases...
Hopefully the Reality Design becomes reality. Last edited by MikeB on 06-Nov-2004 at 09:46 AM.

| mini-itx motherboard fit perfectly into all ATX cases. but its overkill as there is no need to stick such a small motherboard in sucha big case.
AndyC, I have one of the 1st versions modified, new mounting screws put in for the A1200 motherboard and the old mounting screws drilled out. I also cut out the back and made a new backpanel for the A1200 ports. It wasnt a lot of work, but the A1200 fits in nicely with room for some expansions as the a1200 motherboard is very low profile.
If you want to convert one of the cases it wont take long if u have a drill and a saw. And if u have one of those little machines for punching rivets for screws to go in, would be a sinch to convert it to fit an A1200. |
