hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaOne XE repair service
   posted by GuruMeditation on 28-Jan-2005 19:06:48 (14929 reads)
We are happy to offer an AmigaOne XE repair service for boards with non-functioning USB & DMA/Ethernet.

Before contacting us, please consider the following:

ANY WORK UNDERTAKEN WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY AND WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK
WE CANNOT OFFER ANY WARRANTY OR EXTEND AN EXISTING WARRANTY

If you still wish the work to be carried out and you understand that it will be at your risk, then please contact us via email.

Once we have received your request, we shall reply with a booking number. You will then be contacted with a request for you to send us your board. When sending the board, please package it carefully, preferably using the original packaging.

Remember to use anti-static precautions when handling your board. Please use an anti-static bag to put the board in. It is also recommended that heavy heatsink/fan combinations are securely wrapped to avoid movement during transit.

It is always wise to insure your parcel.

If you purchased your board directly from Guru Meditation, only payment for the shipping costs are required.
If you did not buy your board from Guru Meditation, the repair work will cost 30 Euros + Shipping.

The repair work will be carried out by professionals.
Turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks from the day that you send us your board.

DO NOT SEND YOUR BOARD WITHOUT HAVING RECEIVED YOUR BOOKING NUMBER.

In tandem with this, we also have a special offer on the Swiftech heatsink. Buy it at the same time and we'll install it for you at no extra cost.

@Orgin

I hear you. However, the company we've contracted to do this fix has assured us (and I've seen the fix performed myself) that the risk really doesn't lie with the fix in itself. They quite good at what they do. It's more likely that it will be damaged through shipping. Hence the emphasis on handling and proper packaging.

Please don't turn this around into something bad. We're offering this at a very, very reasonable price. If any boards will break, ofcourse we will do anything in our power to help you.

This is a good thing. Don't paint it black..

@GuruMeditation

This is good news, absolutely.

I see the points raised by a few of the other posters regarding Eyetech's stance though. And is their silence on the matter just an attempt to dodge a few potential bullets?

But all the more credit to you though. It's a good offer, and if I could only be without my computer for two weeks...(hmmm, either get something to temporarily replace it, or treat my addiction... )

Remember, this is the guy who sent out free ide-cards to his XE-customers a while back. I'd like to think the above are not just empty words.

Great move with good intentions by Guru, A+. Wish they were in the US

Still nothing official from EyeTech, they're working on becoming the least publicized company in history that should really do something to change that already.

As an A1 XE owner with the Swiftech cooler installed on my MB (http://amigairc.amigarevolution.com/cooling.html) I just want to tell you all that it is much quieter than the ChromeOrb (which is what most XE's came with)

The ability for this heatsink to cool compared to the ChromeOrb.... well... isn't really comparable.

For people that live in warm climates, I strongly recommend getting this heatsink.

Naturally getting the motherboard revisions at the same time is a great idea as well

I had one of those Sunon fans.

@Gurumeditation

Nice effort once again

I don't dare to send my A1 with the Swedish Post after they wrecked my pc though, so got to see if I'm going to Göteborg some time soon

It's great that "the fix" is finally available to end users, but Eyetech should authorise it so that it doesnt invalidate the warranty. FFS.

In other words, Eyetech still doesn't take responsibility for this. Nice.

Yeah some kind of statement would be nice. Like you said, no pointing finger towards gurumeditation. That has nothing to do with Eyetech being silent. They just offer to fix it and kudos to that.

Anyfix I am wondering if we will see some words coming from Eyetech.

Nobody does. Every word of anger here in this whole thread is about Eyetech. It only seems it is pointing towards you but it really is not.

Yep. This leaves Eyetech out of the loop. Again, kudos to Guru for providing a fix and free of charge (have to pay shipping) for people that bought the board there.

I interpret that as meaning that the USB repair is carried out as part of the operation.

The XE isn't for sale right now, but I would think that if/when more come available, they will not require any further fixes by the user.

I assume (i.e. I have no inside knowledge) that as Eyetech have bowed out from the retail business, they feel no obligation to deal with 'customers' diect.

Perhaps Stellar Dreams as the 'official' UK dealer will be able to spread some light on this matter.

Although this is definitely a 'good thing' in that boards will become fully functional, it seems typical of the Amiga market that the customer ends up being treated less well than they would expect. Why should the warranty be lost if it is an official repair by professionals? Then again, what worth does the warranty have anyway?

Sorry to sound negative, but it makes you nervous of investing in new Amiga hardware until some brave soul/sap has already bought it and confirmed it's OK.

@gurumeditation

Great service.i hope KDH-SHOP and Versalia will offer this service too in the next days/weeks.

@all

I don't understand the reaction of Eyetech! If they don't have the money to do the fix they should give up. POINT.

OTOH there is an E.U. guideline which says that any product sold by any country in the E.U. must have a warranty of 2 years or more!
The only country which does apply this is Germany, that is you are told on your bill that the prouct does have a 2 year warranty!
2 days ago I did read that this warranty applies to all E.U. countries! As most shops in the country I live only give a 6months/1year warranty they all break laws as the warranty is 2 years!

The same goes if you buy a product from another E.U. country.
It doesn't matter that the boards are earlybirds or beta-boards: as a consumer you buy something and you do have the right to get an exchange or repair, if the product doesn't work properly after 2 years!

So Eyetech get up on your feet and act: NOW!

The problem could come worse if s.o. with a broken A1 takes in charge the E.U. Court of Justice in Luxembourg to clearify this affair.
