News   News : The new amiga.com
posted by mjohnson on 18-Mar-2005 10:21:04 (13864 reads)
The new Amiga Inc. website has finally been unveiled.

Apart from the updated design and new content, there are also a few interesting news item, especially this one: "KMOS, Inc. announces the formal change of its corporate name and legal identity to Amiga, Inc."

It also seems that AmigaAnywhere is back in the game, now released at version 1.5

First time I've heard a reference to Tao's line of products.....then reading between the lines I guess Qi is the new world class Amiga browser then.

Quote:
Amiga, Inc. announced that it has formed a partnership with Omniscience in which Amiga will bundle the Adept Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with its Amiga SDK version 1.5 to provide a rich development experience for developers of applications for the AmigaAnywhere™ platform.

Hmmmm....I wonder it you'll be able to use it to write OS4 software too or if they are just going to ignore it. Yeah, I know it should be easy, just wondering if it will work outta the box. Heard that Intent ships with Codewarrior, and we end up with some unknown and probably unfinished thing. At least Omniscience has a better website than KMOS ever had..

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.

Well we don't know for sure - but I must admit that things don't look great. Anyway - Gary will hopefully give us more info.

Maybe we can exchange $50 coupons for a line of credit in the casino.

Hi All,

Would those calling A-Inc's new site "unprofessional" and similiar terms please explain what they mean exactly. I don't get it.

I'm a computer artist with 14 years Amiga & PC experience. I've developed web pages for my employer's IntrAnet. I'm a firm believer in keeping web pages simple and accessible.

I can not speak about the folks who posted here. I do not know them well, if at all. But at my work I've found that people who scream "Professional" the loudest fall into two catagories. The larger group wants to load a site with enough bells & whistles to sink the Titanic again. The smaller group (fortunately) would not know "professional" if it bit them.

Again, the above paragraph is not directed at any member here, but I would like to see the reasons for these opinions.

Best,

Bob Kennedy

I'm shocked!

It looks like an amateur online casino. They should be ashamed of themselves.

We all should set an example of what Amiga is really about, and buy out the whole damn company. now that would be world breaking news!

if we did that, I can already see the headlines all over the world...

"AMIGAFANS BUY OUT AMIGA.INC......WE HAD ENOUGH THEY SAY"

Now how is that for a headline!!

Anyone with me, on buying out amiga.inc????

Who of us have experience in running a company. There must be some of us with the right location, education, experience, etc. capable of starting this thing up properly.......anyone??

LETS RECLAIM OUR BELOVED AMIGA. LETS GET IT BACK WHERE IT IS TRUELY LOVED......AMONG THE FANS!!

Time to donate folks.......who'll be the president??? - it should be someone with great knowledge of the computing market, and the proper talent and visions to make us all proud

@Bobson

Hehe, a graphical artist who thinks a website is underdesigned. How quaint

Personally, I belong to the design school of "less design, please". I found the webpage to be browsable. That's the important thing for me. No javascript-css-menues that doesn't work on my browser, no java, no flash, just a website. Thank you, Amiga Inc.

Now, as for content. Here I must say there's not enough. Yet. Hopefully this isn't the last incarnation of the AI website we see.

Um... Intent is used quite a bit, I think. Look at their list of partners. It does say "engine".

@erwin-k

1. take a look at the design of this site, Amiga World, it is crisp, it is fresh, uses the idea of Amiga windows for the borders around postings and the such, the Amiga site is a mash of pictures and horribly looking text, Amiga's site doesn't

2. To be accessable ALL images should have ALT tags.

3. You cannot TAB through any of the links, only the login which i can see.

4. There are too many different font sizes on the pages.

5. The picture of someone's kid wearing one of the T-shirts is very unprofessional and "....Now, let's see.....I think I'll write OS 5.0...", is extremely child-minded.

The competition's site's are league's ahead .....

Apple
MorphOS

etc... etc...

Errr...Never heard of a company needing a computer artist(?) for an intranet. I guess they need pretty pages that no-one can see.
And you can't tell this is crap?

I've developed web pages, online stores and intranets for fortune 500 companies and let me tell you even the worst looked better than that. Hell, even the majority of sites on the Amiga webring look better than that. And graphic designers don't cost much you know. They're needed to make it look professional. Hell, there are thousands in the community who would have done it better for free. They should be utilising the community more. Free doesn't mean crap, when people will go to great lengths to support the Amiga. And yes, we can make it slick without breaking browser compatability.

Please, Garry.....Let us help you.....
Please ask him on IRC for me.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.

No more portal, not really a "home" page, designed like the old AmigaOS site in worse, first page showing a screenshot that makes think of an online gambling site, minimalist information about AmigaOS, no screenshot nor most basic specifications of AOS4...

Crap, sh*t, whatever you say for "absolutely bad".

Someone here should volunteer to make a new site for free, so our eyes can be relieved

that site is utter suckness. The old one looked better, in fact, according to the Archive, the one from 1998 looked better.

http://web.archive.org/web/19990125093210/http://www.amiga.com/

And look, according to the homepage they are targeting Amiga 200HDs.

This is disgusting. How can we be taken seriously if the page looks like that. Amgaworld.net looks 8 times better.

ugh :(

+1 - agree, it sucks *alot* more than the old one...

I was at least hoping for a new CAM to read!

2 questions:
1) Are they really based in New York now? (And who are they?)
2) "Amiga family of operating systems" - WTF does that mean? AROS and MOS too?

Link is here

Is this the end of AOS?

It really looks like AOS4 will be the final version! After that nothing new!

This seems being another T-Shirt action: they (former Amiga Inc) promised a T-Shirt. KMOS gave it to us. POINT.
They (former Amiga Inc) promised AOS4, it's nearly here (Hyperion). POINT.

I hope that this wasn't the case.

Also Amiga Anywhere for which platform except Windowsbased systems?
All my smartphones and PDAs are NON-MS OS!!!!

Over 90% of all mobile phone do use SYMBIAN OS!!! No one is using Windows on their smartphones.

Most PDA use PALM OS. Only a handfull use Windows CE.

I really don't see a bright future for my A1. But I hope I'm wrong.
