Software News   Software News : AHI v6.0rc3 and emu10kx v6 driver uploaded
   posted by DaveAE on 21-Apr-2005 13:00:12 (5721 reads)
The OS4 native port of AHI v6.0rc3 and the emu10kx v6 driver for SB Live, Audigy and Audigy2 cards have just been uploaded to OS4depot. Please read the accompanying README's before installing.

For the CAMD testers: please install this version since it sends out more debug info.

Kind regards,

Davy Wentzler

I really had to ask you this: Are you on drugs? I am not joking. Do you use any medication you shouldn't?

Anyway. 16bit audio is 16bit audio. On any platform. It's not to be considered a special feature or anything, it's the standard. AHI can and does produce 24bit audio, there's just no software that uses that yet. Amiga is not the platform of choice for audio stuff right now, due to the lack of software.

Stop praising everything and anything Amiga related "just because". Developers need challenging as well as encouragement, to work efficiently. Imagine that: You develop a program and there are many people telling you how great it is, even if you know that it isn't at that point. Then, the project continues, getting bigger and better, getting very good. Yet there's a huge omission due to an oversight, such things happen all the time. Would you rather have people that tell you how much you rule, or people that speak the truth?

@Amigr

No, i don't use drugs or any medicine. If you are into drugs, then i consider you to ask a druguser to give you some drugs. I assume your critics were meant to me. I have to say you're walking into a very dangerous and too personal path with your line here.

Stay clear to the topic. Don't shot about something that should be left unsaid just because you have something against someone or other..

Now to the point. I know it's possible to use 24-bit AHI drivers. I can only hope that software soon will start using it. Probably when OS4.1 is finished sometime next year. For the moment, i think we have to accept the fact that we need to use the best of the 16-bit feature for most use...

I have no further to say you. Have a nice day...

@Helgis

Dangerous? Whatever. It's just that many of your comments would only be considered valid from someone that is intoxicated, be it alcohol or anything.

And I repeat... 16bit audio is not a feature to get horny about. It's that simple. And OS4.1 has nothing to do with 24bit audio either. I guess that the first developer to use 24bit audio with be DaveAE in AudioEvolution but we'll see. Guess what, AHI also supports multichannel sound now.

I knew that about AHI, but like DaveAE stated, there WILL be a brand new audio system with dynamic sound and probably 3D-sound, way beyond that of AHI. Even that AHI now support Multichannel sound, very few programs actually use it..

And to be intoxiced or what you call it. No way, and by the way, you're the ONLY one with that impression of me. I have been here much longer than you to know that most people respect me as much as i respect them...

So better drop off that stupid talk about drugs, alcohol or what you have in your filthy mind. It only tends to sound to childish....It's too silly, so keep clear to the topic and be a grown human, then you will have respect...

No further comment...Case dismiss...

@helgis

Look below the avatars and you'll see that he's been on AW 10 days longer than you You just post 4x more than him, that's all.

Anyway, back to the topic, 16 bit/44.1KHz (which is CD quality) is considered enough for playback. My 8-track digital recorder also outputs audio in that format, though internally it uses 24bit for processing.

The main advantage of higher bitrates and frequencies becomes appearent when the sound has to be manipulated extensively, like adding effects, scaling, and mixing. The more information is contained in a sample, the more accurate the resulting data after processing, but in the end it's still mixed down to 16bit/44k stereo for the CD master.

The sound track on movie/audio DVDs might use or support higher bitrates like 24bit/96k, I'm not sure as I haven't messed with DVD mastering yet.

Should mixer (v1.11) work with Audigy1-card and/or with these new ahi drivers ?
