If people made a perfect 16 bit converter that would honestly be good enough (98.08dB with sinus at full peak). The problem is of course that 16 bit converters are usually only good for about 13 bits (~80dB). Etc etc. The world wants to be deceived, I guess...

I broadcast, customers are complaining if a 10 bit video converter doesn't get more than 60dB SNR.

Given that an SDI signal only utilizes 840 of the 1024 values in the 10 bit signal (the rest are control codes, giving a penalty of -0.09dB) and that video usually can be considered a random signal uniformly distributed between 0 and 0.7V (with blanking level at -0.3V) then the theoretical maximum SNR of an SDI converter would be 60.11 dB. When has ANYONE here EVER reached a theoretical maximum?

That spec sheet is rather thin.

What does "balanced" input and output mean in this context? What input impedance? What common-mode rejection? At 20 kHz?

Do I have to shield the card in a metal can to achieve those noise figures?
