Software News   Software News : Wet gains docky support
   posted by Chris_Y on 20-Nov-2005 14:07:36 (4954 reads)
Wet is a program for OS4 that displays the current weather either in the Workbench titlebar, as an icon on the backdrop or - new in v4.1 - in AmiDock. Further information can be found on the website.

Being able to show the weather as a docky is the most requested feature for Wet. This release has preliminary docky support, and will now also work if your Amiga is sitting behind a proxy server.

I just installed it and it feels great ! I just need now to update the location as for the moment it's giving me the weather on some island...

"23C feels like 24C" This cannot be UK, can it !

LOL! Try 4 feels like 3! Actually it feels more like -3 at the moment.

Chris_Y, how about a real world weather control feature, with built in
temperature controls and variable windspeed settings?! (I don't think they
even have that on KDE Weather yet!) Then I could crank up the temperature
to avoid de-icing my car in the cold winter mornings!

@Tonton_Pascal
Looking at the screen grab posted earlier, I would say it is an indication that it is an application (AmiDock usually underlines the title, but if there isn't one, well..)

@Jerryuk007
It defaults to the very first entry in the site list which, unless you happen to live on the Solomon Islands, probably isn't what you want. (It is, however, preferable to "2°C, feels like 0°C")

Yes indeed... And in the Drop down list, you can see only 4 (or was it 5 ?) codes... I had to open the data file manually to see which station may be the closest to me (it may well be Norwich), and after entering the code manually, it works fine.

When I go to "Forecast" and click Update, the App "freezes"...

It would be great to have the Temps display as well on the AmiDock.
Also to have a Scheduler Option which would Update the Info as often as you wish could be a nice feature.
Another option could be a log system to record the Temps at a regular interval and send it to a file... Then we would just need a nice GUI to diplay those Temps in a chart...

@Jerryuk007

If you put your Latitude/Longitude in the boxes above, and click Find, it will set it to the nearest site for you. A search by place/name feature is something I keep thinking about implementing. Your nearest site is probably Cambridge, stick your postcode in here and then click on the convert/measure co-ordinates link, which will give you the values Wet needs.

If forecast is still freezing, please can you select the first three options in the debug menu in turn, and attach t:wet.debug to an email after each one. I wil need those files to find out why it is freezing.

Scheduler - you can set it to update in intervals of 10 minutes. You need to set the tooltype POLL=1 for 10 min intervals, POLL=2 for twenty, etc. I have a growing number of config options in the tooltypes that aren't configurable with the GUI, which I'm aware of and need to fix (they are all documented in the guide)

Logging the temps should be easily doable with an ARexx script - that's what the ARexx port is for. I guess an option to run an ARexx script after every update would help here.

Temps on Amidock - I'm considering a either a big temp display with a graph behind (similar to the cclock.docky on OS4Depot), or adding the temperature to the "unused" corner of the icon. The second one will probably come along with a bit more configuration as to what you get in the icon corners - as this is currently hard-coded.

Chris
