hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : DvPlayer v0.54 Released
   posted by COBRA on 19-Apr-2006 21:46:57 (6070 reads)
A new version of DvPlayer is now available on the DvPlayer Webpage. Registered users will receive their copy via E-Mail. If you don't please contact me.

Mirror #1
Mirror #2

Changes in this release:

- Added direct DVD support
- Added automatic detection of CD/DVD drive (no need to specify device name/unit anymore)
- Added support for the new 64bit DOS functions so that files >2GB are now handled correctly
- Implemented the I/O plugin system and moved the DVD/VideoCD support to an external plugin
- Screen Blanker is now not allowed to activate while playing
- Implemented AppWindow support so files can be dragged onto DvPlayer's window
- Now the previous filename is remembered in the file requester when opening files
- Window is now opened on the frontmost screen (if it's public) instead of the Workbench screen so that if it's started from a different screen it will open there.
- Improved 6-Channel to Stereo audio conversion routines to avoid distortions which appeared with a few DVDs
- Fixed NOTRIPLEBUFFER option (was broken when subtitle support was added)
- Fixed sound distortions with interleaved AVI files
- Now ensures that only complete frames are sent to the video decoder for AVI files. This should fix the problems with partially downloaded AVI files.
- Fixed a bug in the subtitle code which caused memguard hits
- Fixed a serious bug in GUI loading (thanks to memguard)
- Fixed a nasty bug in the exit code which could cause random crashes

It shouldn't take long, here it takes about 1 sec for the movie to start playing

It takes about 30 seconds here!

although I have just a single drive as CD0, maybe you have several drives which the player needs to check before it finds the one with the DVD in it

I have two drives here, a DVD-ROM and a DVD-RW. Funny thing is that DVD's never get mounted when inserted in DVD-ROM and never have, I suspect OS4 doesn't like the firmware (it's an NEC model) but CD's show up and mount fine. The DVD-RW is what I use to show and play DVD's (also an NEC model)!

@sicky

just an idea... could You try to switch the two drives... maybe it would check Your DVD-RW first... I know that is not the best solution, but ...

It's possible that the NEC drive is your first one (CD0) and it takes a very long time to respond. Maybe a firmware update could help there, or put that one in as the first drive. You can make DvPlayer directly play any device via the command line like so:

> DvPlayer a1ide.device:2

Now this got me thinking, perhaps the DVD plugin should be configurable not to use automatic detection.

Thanks for the new release!

It's sitting in my mailbox ready to be tried out when I get home from work.

Good to see the drag and drop made it to this release.

Many Thanks!
Bean.

Never mind, I already have been answered.

IMHO it's not so important feature.

@chip

Indeed it is not important! But on this DVD, when angles are available DvPLayer plays normal version for 1 minute, then the same minute but from another angle... i can't enjoy some tracks because of that.

Seeing a live song of 3 minutes in 6 minutes.... anyway it doesn't happen if i select the single vob file.

@Sicky

I have a NEC ND-3500A DVD-RW DL drive and it works flawlessly on my µA1.
It takes about a sec for a movie to start, just as Cobra said. Although I have
only one DVD drive in my system.

30sec sounds like it's having some problem finding the drive.
Does both drives work okey with browsing DVD's? What about MPlayer?
Does it play okey (& fast startup) from both DVD's?

Hi Cobra,

Good work DVPlayer is a class act. BTW is it likely there will ever be support for Encrypted DVD`s (I know there`s legal issues, but if someone else say ported libdvdcss or ripped some of the code out of Mplayer could this be supported unofficially like the a52 codec?)

I will be releasing the API documentation for the I/O plugin system in the next few days, then anyone can make any plugins they like.

@Cobra

The previous version tried (with limited success) to play .wmv files. This one refused to play a single one.

Is this a feature (refuse to load a file that is not 100% supported)?

PS: is it possible to make DVPlayer able to "remember" the file requester options (as in "sort by name/date, etc)? As it is now, I have to re-configure it for every file I open. It would be a welcome and probably not very difficult addition.
