Hardware News   Hardware News : AmigaOne CPU Module Demonstration Rescheduled:
posted by ackcontrls on 22-May-2006 15:56:17 (12163 reads)
I know.....a slightly longer wait. As with all plans with tight schedules, I have hit a bit of a technical barrier that prevents me from making the live demonstration of a working CPU module. Similarly, I didn't have the time to set up a proper agenda for the event. I was not expecting people to physically want to visit in person and have addressed this properly. In addition a few others mentioned that the original date being on a Monday would be difficult to participate in. Here is the new date, timing and location for the event:

Date: Saturday, June 10th, 2006
Time: 4:00 pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Savings Time)

Location:

The UPS Store
26-200 Fitch Street
Welland, ON L3C 4V9
Canada

Parking and space is limited. Please e-mail your intention to attend. Beverages and food will be provided.

Agenda:

4:00 pm Brief Introduction
4:10 pm Overview of the CPU module Installation and Settings
4:30 pm Booting OS4
4:35 pm Benchmark Testing
5:00 pm Question & Answer Period
5:55 pm A Few Final Words
6:00 pm Wrap-Up

The Question and Answer period will first take questions from the people physically in attendance at the demonstration followed by questions via IRC and e-mail.

Sincerest apologies on the delays to those who have been waiting very patiently.

ACK: OK, I'm not surprised at all. We are used to delays here, however telling us the same
day is abit late. You should have told us at least this weekend when you were active here
and should have seen at least 2 threads asking about this presentation.

Maybe he thought the issues would be worked out by today? Could be, and then ran out of time.

Absolutely. After all fo the silence we've had from companies over the last few years, it's refreshing to actually get someone who steps up and gives a status update to let us know where things are currently. So the demo date slipped. Not real suprising, but the update and explanation makes it "okay" for me.

He'd best not. While ironfist may not always post 'agreeable' content, his above post is NOT baiting or trolling.

@wegster

I bet Atheist sees the 20 sold joke as a bait, that's why I put the smiley behind my comment..

But of course it's not a bait. Just a harmless joke.

@ironfist
I presume he thought he could have it ready in time, and then something unexpected happened. I do think it would have been more professional though to have it ready and THEN organise a demonstration.

When will our hardware producers learn to stop announcing things that aren't actually ready, and ONLY announce their actual current progress?

@Adam, Troika

I don't understand why you guys don't get it, it's been said over and over. Most here already know that designing hardware takes time, and it has pitfalls that are hard to predict. If you want to "keep the dream alive" while you're still working on prototypes, post a monthly (or whatever) update, put some pictures online, have the odd podcast. Do not make wildly optimistic release schedules and then miss them because they were unrelealistic in the first place (the phrase "tight schedule" is a huge giveaway, I see it too often in the company I work in, and it invariably means trouble). That sort of thing only has the effect of turning people off and making them cynical that you will ever deliver anything; in other words, it has the opposite effect of what you want.

Hi Samwel,

While normally I'd take almost anything ironfist has to say as a troll, it was an ubsurd figure, and accepted it as humour. (I would say I have a good sense of humour.)

Fortunately, now we're in a position to increase the Amiga AOS4.0 user base by about 1,000 by Christmas. (Assuming PV and the new standalone motherboard are released by ACK by June.)

I would say that AOS4.0 should be released when ACK's standalone motherboard sales slow down, as at that point he's able to meet demand for the rush of new users when the final is released.

The reason I think this is the best course of action is that there are still at least 500 people prepared to get a motherboard now, even with AOS4.0 in it's current state.

Yes!

Thank you for keeping us informed.

Good luck with the schedule!

I'm only interested in the CPU's to the extent that when these are released the OS4 boards are closer as well!

No doubts that this is the most critical and unlikely point in your assumptions on OS4.0 sales.

Even without getting a new motherboard there are several hundreds of people who would directly rush out and buy OS4.0 in it's current prerelease state.
Why are so many of you always ignoring the users of BlizzardPPC and CyberstormPPC?
There is a potential to increase the userbase even _without_ any new hardware.
So why not focus to finally get the Classic PPC version out soon?

I would find it interesting to see if the "shark" from elbox would actually become available once hyperion do the full release.....in fact, I would be extremely interested in alot of thing at about that time......what would or conversely, what would not, happen.

I agree with you.
I think it is possible to work in two modes, work and no speak until the product is ready, or
with a schedules updates.

Bye Henry.

Maybe better first check if DMA is working.

Honestly, I would never prepay for anything in the Amiga market, even if it would be OS4.0 on x86.
People are just so desperate, they would even sacrifice a testicle for getting OS4.0 to run on _something_ available.

If you release OS4.0 now, I will personally sacrifice...how you say?
... how you say? Hram, how you say "Hram"? How you say?

ACK: ####?

No, No, underneath...Hram, how you say Hram?

ACK: Testicles?

Yes, I will sacrifice...testicles!
