Got me! Some of them have not a real selected state... I am working on it! _________________ Martin "Mason" Merz www.masonicons.de

No! It should also work with AmigaOS 3.x, AROS and MorphOS. AISS is just a simple assign architecture with some images attached.

Ahhh..so what apps will use these images in OS3x? _________________ A4000 CSMKII 50mhz A4000 CS PPC 604e@233mhz '060@50mhz A3000 '040@40mhz A1200 '030@50mhz A500+ '030@40mhz

| @Amigaz
That'd depend on the apps themselves. The images won't automatically be used but if you have an app that lets you customize the look, or choose gadget images (And can display PNG images for it's gadgets), there shouldn't be a reason why you couldn't configure it to use the AISS images.

| Well, I've recently converted Epistula to use datatypes for all its images and it crashes when using the AISS images.
Not that I'm blaming AISS, but Epistula works fine with all other PNG images, and to be honest I've never seen a PNG datatype which considers the alpha channel... they all show up as a black background when viewing in Multiview. _________________ This fire is burnin' and it's out of control It's not a problem you can stop, It's rock n' roll - GN'F'N'R

Cool, but ah...

Multiview always shows PNG's with alphas as having black backgrounds. The alpha channel is drawn correctly but on a single colour background you'll not notice as much as if, say, the datatype used a multi coloured background (A checkered pattern or something).
If you copy one of the AISS images somewhere, say RAM:, & rename it with a ".info" at the end, you'll see the alpha channel correctly used (Providing you're using PowerIcons or something similar).
You could also try viewing the images in IBrowse (For this you'll have to view the contents of the directory in IBrowse then right click the filename & select to Download the image as a MIME type image/png, because there isn't a .png suffix to determine what it is). IBrowse doesn't yet display alpha channels exactly, it simply draws a transparent background from 50% transparent. But at least you'll see the alpha channel working here too though.

| Oh aye, I'm sure the AISS images do have a true alpha channel in there, I'm not disputing that. I just wondered if the PNG datatypes really did take that alpha channel into consideration, and going off what you said, they do
So, I'll go see if I can fix this problem in Epistula. _________________ This fire is burnin' and it's out of control It's not a problem you can stop, It's rock n' roll - GN'F'N'R

That's not a very good example because PowerIcons doesn't use datatypes, instead it uses it's own PNG parsing code. Alpha seems to work OK in AutodocViewer using the new AISS graphics though, as far as I can tell...Last edited by salass00 on 13-Aug-2006 at 05:42 PM.

In OS4 certainly, the PNG datatype will read the Alpha channel when instructed.
However, the program (eg: multiview) might choose to ignore the extra data.
The skinable interface I'm working on makes heavy use of the alpha channel supplied by the datatype system, and it works well with PNG images.

It wasn't the best was it. I was just trying to find a couple of ways to show the alpha channels at work.
Good luck with em Slash.

if the PNG datatypes really did take that alpha channel into consideration, and going off what you said, they do | There are problems under 68k. The first problem lies with the official 68k picture datatype (to which the png datatype is a subclass). Under AmigaOS3, the picture datatype provides no way to obtain the alpha information: for some reason, the PDTM_READPIXELARRAY method does not correctly support the alpha rgb pixel format (PBPAFMT_ARGB). Alpha transparency is lost in this method call and all alpha values are zero.
The second problem lies with the 68k png datatypes: apparently some 68k implementations pass alpha through in PDTM_READPIXELARRAY (akPNG), some do not (WarpPNG).
The workaround is to use an alternative picture datatype and a png datatype with alpha pass-though. |
