@Tuxedo

G4 at 800Mhz and the screen update + feel of the program are slow here aswell.

@CignusEd
The program looks very nice and has a lot of features though I was unable to import a .DOC file as it just sat there for ten minutes with a busy pointer and the whole X system slowed to a crawl. I gave up in the end and killed the app.

I'd like to see this as a native OS4 application for better speed but keep up the good work its still much appreciated.

Well,

Cygnix is always Grim Reapering but work if ignored error.

Abiword works fine also but would like to know if it will also support the most common file type from Amiga word processing: Wordworth, Finalwriter, and so on.

Again good job!

Nicola

You need the X server, first of all. It's useless without it.

unimon : This AbiWord version is a first step. Maybe a good chance to learn more about its internals. And it could be modified to run as a standard OS4 program in the future. About DTP formats, I think it will be time for me to work on my converter (the old WoW and the recent text viewer Amore). Why not after the next release of PointRider ?

Congratulations to Edgar !

@ iAMIGA & pvanni

This problem is a bug in the javascript code. If you call "getTime()" (maybe other functions too) osb-browser freezes. Couldn't figure out yet why this happens. I need some more time. I already fixed some serious bugs, but as you can see, it's not enough.

@Tuxedo

Please make sure, that grammar checking is turned off (look at "Tools/Preferences..."). It is very slow. On my system (XE/800 Mhz) AbiWord has a good speed for working with it, so I have no other idea at the moment.

@unimon

Please make sure, that there is no abc-shell installed on your system, which is older that V52.1. Cygnix has an included binary, but if an older version is in the search path, you get crashes while launching programs.

@Arnie

AbiWord should load MSWord 97 files. Sometimes AbiWords has problems with a file, but mostly it works (here on my system).
Please don't see AbiWord only as a text converter. It is really great to make your own documents with it.

@CygnusEd

Now i have removed the only "getTime()" call that i can find, it was just in some statistics.
I don't think that my site validates so don't take it to seriusly, thats because i use googlepages.com and they never fix it.

But it would be great if it worked: www.iamiga.info/for-osb

@all

I would like a screengrab of a searchresult, if it works now, thanks?

@iAMIGA

Tried it and it sometimes crash and sometimes not. It always crashes at the same position in the javascript code. The javascript engine is the buggiest part of all. Is it possible to get the code, so I can figure out, where it happens?

Here it works:

@CygnusEd
I made you an empty page for testing: http://www.iamiga.info/empty
[EDIT] I made an even emptier one and emailed the link, they are not the same page[/EDIT]
It would be interresting to know if they (google) add their own js.
The js is in the mail.
I like the screenshot , it renders perfect.

OK, i'm gonna to check if there is any abc-shell (but think not).

I'll begin to make own document with Abiword but is there a possibility to print normaly with USB printer?

Creating docs is good but better if can be printed... Actually the solution is to convert it in PDF and print it from AmiPDF, but I don't think it's the goal.

Nicola

@unimon

AbiWord creates internally a postscript document and sends it to the "lpr" command. lpr itself uses Ghostscript to print it (Installed on your system partition in "Sys:Utilities/Ghostscript"). Ghostscript uses the standard amiga printer. I don't know, how a USB printer has to be configured, but I guess, that the usbprinter.device must be set in the printer settings.

Do you use TurboPrint?

Thanks for your help.

Yes I have TurboPrint. Does it need to be configured? But now that I know how it works, I'll try different methods for printing.

Oh... it works! Thanks very much for this. I have always avoided Abiword on Linux because of the availability of OpenOffice.org, but this is very welcome for OS4.0. I have not tried all the features out, but it looks as though it can generate PDFs as well as RTFs and .docs.

I'm sure I can get at least some of the formats into Pagestream and Wordworth so I've got full flexibility.

Mind you, it would be nice to have Gimp. Goodness, that works as well! This is all going to be very handy. I must find out how to import the extra Abiword fonts. In fact, I must have a root around and discover how to edit the window manager and the Xwindow prefs. One very good feature is the access to the Amiga filesystem so you can load and save files anywhere on the machine. That has always been a niggle on eUAE.

I get a few ignorable DSIs (I think, mainly from the X-window environment), but I suppose they might go, after an update or two. The only one that really gets my goat is when I click the close-Xwindow gadget and it Grims. I do the More/Ignore DSI and get back to a requestor asking if I really want to exit Xwindow! Perhaps I have annoyed it by trying to leave.

Anyway, thanks again for an excellent addition to OS4.0. Perhaps one day there will be an OS4.0 native version of GTK+ and the other glue to make these programs work in OS4.0 Windows, but perhaps new hardware is a bit more of an urgent need.

Regards
Roy Leith

Great news !
I'm looking forward to use AbiWord now on the Amiga.
It really is a good program in the Linux world and can take the callenge with OpenOffice Writer IMHO.
