Software News   Software News : Compositing demos
   posted by Hyperionmp on 7-Sep-2008 15:29:20 (8774 reads)
Rogue has uploaded two small demo programs to os4depot.net that show off some of the possibilities of the compositing engine of AmigaOS 4.1. Don't expect any miracles, though, they're very simple and just there to show that compositing goes beyond rounded corners.

AmigaOS 4.1 required!

shall we say, two weeks? ;)

Huh? I haven't even said which update that would be, but it is at least four or so month away.

@Rogue

The poster was doing the "2 more weeks" Viscorp joke, it wasn't an actual guess!

I doubt it. Even the IPhone has a 620 MHz ARM 1176, underclocked to 412 MHz, according to Wikipedia, which is slower than the fastest existing AmigaOnes (AFAIK the ones with the 1.267 GHz 7457).

@Leo:

Will probably need an updated SDK anyway, which probably will include examples with source.

Yes, an updated SDK is required. It's in the works, though, and at least binutils 2.18 made major strides recently.

One of the features we're planning for and update is support for PCI GART on Radeons. That allows you to map part of the system memory into the Radeon's address space using DMA. That feature might make capturing video feasible. It is also needed to get decent OpenGL performance.

very very good !

I realized it was meant as some kind of joke, I just didn't know why. The "two more weeks" figure usually pops up when someone wants to urinate on someone's announcement, but this wasn't even an announcement, just stating that this is planned.

Nevermind.

@spotUP

Two more weeks is probably about how long it will be before you make OS4Depot run out of disk space.

Yes... I am -sure- I remember something in the Terms of Service about ONLY using 'two more weeks' when ''Raining on someone's parade''..... I'll look it up..

I read it as tongue-in-cheek, I think you were reading a little to much into it. Although it didn't appear, a "wink" smiley was used to indicate as such. You said that there was something (obviously quite major) to be made and the reply was a simple humours comment that didn't seem intended to offend or claim that it should be done in two weeks, simply to _try_ and bring a smile or maybe go as far as a little chuckle.

Has the Amiga community degraded to such a degree that a simple flippant comment can't be made?

As I pointed out, I didn't understand why. I know SpotUP well enough to know that he's not trying to be offensive.

*shrugs*
