Software News   Software News : Icaros Desktop 1.1 has been released
   posted by paolone on 27-Mar-2009 2:34:20 (4948 reads)
The new AROS distribution Icaros Desktop, formerly known as VmwAROS, is now available for download. It has got many enhancements over the previous versions, including the OWB web browser, better Amiga emulation performances, a real PDF reader and many, many more. You can get a complete list of changes and some screenshots here.

More info at the official website, www.icarosdesktop.org.

My harddrive is the first device (set as master) on the primary IDE port. As per the manual I wiped it and set up DH0 as FFS and DH1 as SFS. I then checked all the boxes on all options after that. Set my language and locale options. The installer then copies the 11 dirs I mentioned before and that's it. Obviously it won't boot because there's a load of files missing. I tried manually copying all the files from the DVD to the harddrive but that didn't work, I assume because the installation needs to be configured in some way.

Well, please proceed like this:

- wipe everything with HDtoolbox or Gparted

- redo installation from scratch. Use SFS filesystem only: there was a mistake in the manual I have corrected in the following days.

- once finished, instead of rebooting, manually copy Development, Extras, Tests and Demos on DH1: (if you haven't set up it, on DH0:)

- open a shell (rAmiga+W) and type in

echo "DH1:Development" >aros:Prefs/env-archive/DEVELPATH
echo "DH1:Extras" >aros:Prefs/env-archive/EXTRASPATH

(you have to use DH0: instead of DH1: if you used a SINGLE partition for both system and work files).

- reboot

I'll investigate on this issue, promised. =)

@Paolone

Tried again just using sfs and all went well
Thanks for the help. I'm really pleased to finally have it installed as it's a very nice package
