Incorrect. I've seen people use one legitimate copy of Windows and install it on multiple systems in their house (one on mom's laptop, one on dad's gaming PC, one on the kids' machine, and another on the HTPC). And this was XPSP2. It was done simply by putting the install CD in and installing it on each PC. No cracks or keygens involved, sorry. _________________ The problem with AmigaOS on PPC isn't that PPC is big-endian. The problem with AmigaOS on PPC is that PPC is dead-endian.

| I read about it, too. I hope to get the 800Mhz SAM440ep-Flex, but since i have to wait unti autumn anyway, i guess this should be alright..
Unless the trial case is ending and more new hardwares are coming out. We'll see.. _________________ Probably Pegasos 2 G4 1Ghz 1GB DDR-system, ATI Radeon 9250, ESI@Juli PCi-soundcard, all running AmigaOS 4.1 with latest updates, or a new powerful Amiga! Fingers crossed!

Can you update it though?? Being able to use windows update is very important if you care at all about security. XP requires activation per computer afaik, unless you use a corporation copy/key.
But what has changed anyways?? I bought my Sam board and OS4.1 copy separate, so of course i expected this to be possible in the future as well. I think they are shooting their own leg if they demand everyone to buy a new copy of OS4.1 even if he/she is going to only use one copy. They could just as well add another 120 euros to the price of the board, since you apparently have no option anymore.Last edited by Tomas on 28-May-2009 at 11:32 AM. | . . . getting back on topic...
I'd like Acube to make more 800MHz machines and beyond. Obviously people want those more than a 500MHz or 667Mhz. People are needing, myself included, faster machines with more memory and bigger hard drives for the apps out nowadays. I'm pretty sure that even the new Amiga software has much higher demands than the past. And before someone posses the question, what do you need so much power for? I'll simply same 2 things;
1-It's because of more demanding apps and multitasking operations 2-Because I WANT it and are willing to pay for it ( Enough said )
@Laurent/Faranheit
Can you give me a solution again with todays prices? You have my info, please PM me again. Thanks.

Of course you can update it/them. Activation per computer doesn't mean MS has some magic secret button they can push to remotely format your hard drive.
Come to think on it, the only deliberately system-destroying vendor I can think of was elbox and their RDB-deleting USB driver. _________________ The problem with AmigaOS on PPC isn't that PPC is big-endian. The problem with AmigaOS on PPC is that PPC is dead-endian.

There is no way of knowing if they do since their software is closed source.. _________________ SAM440EP MINI-ITX 667MHz - 512MB SAM440EP FLEXATX 800MHz - 512MB - R9250 256MB

Exactly. Either ACube underestimated demand again, or they didn't have enough source capital to finance a larger batch... of the production factory deliveries suck... who knows? Either way, the news can hardly be read as good (especially as the 800MHz Flex went up in price) |
It's really simple. To produce boards, ACube orders a certain number of components including the CPU. Since many 440EP CPUs which are rated at 667MHz will work reliably at 800MHz, they can offer a limited number of 800Mhz boards with those CPUs. However with their initial pricing, the price difference between the 800 and 667 MHz boards was only marginal (about 30 EUR IIRC), so most people automatically went for the 800MHz one, and hardly anyone bought 667Mhz one. So now ACube are stuck with a bunch of 667MHz boards and no 800MHz boards. To get more 800MHz ones, they have to order another batch of CPUs, and then they will not only end up with more 800MHz boards, but also more 667MHz ones (since many of the chips cannot be used at 800MHz). To overcome this issue, they have dropped the price of the 667MHz board, while raising the price of the 800MHz one. In my opinion the current pricing is the way they should have had it since the introduction of the Sam-Flex, the price difference was really too small for people to consider the 667MHz version. In fact, if they would have offerd the 800MHz flex at the current price initially, that would have allowed them to reduce the price of the 667MHz one by a greater amount.Last edited by COBRA on 28-May-2009 at 07:28 PM.

| I certainly understand the requirement to buy the AmigaOS 4 with the Sam board,especially in view of the rampant software piracy of the Amiga's past users.
When I went to look at various used Amigas advertised in the paper or BBS of the 90s ,the would be seller most often proudly showed a collection of 100 or more commercial programs illegally copied including black and white copies of the associated manuals.Many "clubs" were little more than pirates' dens.Some Amiga users had NO legal copies of software ,save that which was included in the original retail Amiga bundle.
Now if only Hyperion would offer AmigaOS 4 for the efika 5200B at say,$125 or so;I,for one would buy it. Wonder how many efika 5200b are out there? |

Be aware of an important point : availability for the 800Mhz version of the Sam Flex can reach up to 4 months, while the 667Mhz version can be delivered in 2 / 3 weeks. |
What is the official word from ACube on these lead times? What is the hold up? _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

Why do you keep putting words in my mouth?? When did i talk about secret button or some backdoor?
My point was that you cannot use windows update on a computer with a non activated windows copy. Afaik you cannot use one copy/one license at the same time as you would need to re activate whenever you install windows. |

What you describe is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL, and if Microsoft detect that one Product Key (serial code) is being used by multiple computers, they are well within their rights to block that Product Key - ensuring that (1) they only get minimal Windows Updates, and (2) future attempts to activate using that key will fail. Bottom line: You might get away with it on 2 or 3 computers (I wouldn't like try risk it though), but many more and they'll think the key has been leaked on the internet. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language.
