software OS4   software OS4 : SMTube : AmigaOS4 port in official SMTube website and sources repository
   posted by zzd10h on 29-Jan-2014 21:31:23 (7463 reads)
A little News about Qt SMTube

Thanks to the kindness of Ricardo 'rvm' Villalba our Qt AmigaOS4 port was merged on the official svn repository.

Even better, Ricardo have inserted an AmigaOS4 binary on the SMTube website download page.

Read more ----->

Find the Boing Ball on http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/smtube.php

A little occasion to show to the outside computing world that AmigaOS is not completely dead

And, now, no more need to modify sources to add AmigaOS specific code !

In this version, for AmigaOS4,

* Added an AmigaOS4_ReadMe.txt showing how to grab and compile svn sources.
Normally, compilation should run like a charm (following the steps in the AmigaOS4_ReadMe.txt

* Sources codes removed from this package
Find them on the svn repository

https://www.assembla.com/code/smplayer/subversion/nodes

* Translations updated

* Settings window reworked to remove MPlayer "Cycle gadget"

A little more recent version is too on OS4Depot.

Many thanks to Ricardo 'rvm' Villalba to have kindly merged and modified his code to integrate AmigaOS4 modifications.

If you want to support and thanks him, you can send to him a donation :

http://sourceforge.net/donate/index.php?group_id=185512

He deserves it, in my opinion, he made a lot of work for us...

As much as I like alot of software integration into default os4 setup i'm sure this will not happen. QT is hugely bloated and by consequence, will make os4 distribution bloated.

Naa not so "bloated" at all.. Qt taked as is it's just a set of libraries and nothing more .. not more than 60 or 70 MB of files to put into a single folder + a few text lines into your startup script and a settings prefs

I never thought I'd see the day when an Amigan said 60 or 70 MB of files was not bloated.

@klx300r :

Why do you want to use wazp3d or warp3d for SMTube ?

Do you speak about "Failed to create MiniGL context" when starting Qt programs ?
If yes, change "Native display" in prefs/Qt.

@Moxee :
Samo79 is true, what is 70mb for our actual HardDrives ?

And what is a 70mb for a complete framework compared to very sized softwares as Timberwolf or MUIOWB ?

Good initiative, but I can't get it to work on my Sam460ex. So I removed it (again)...

Better luck watching YouTube on Amiga OS 4.1, with the "upcoming" Odyssey browser hopefully!?

Well if we want to stay modern we had to expect it soon or later, 10 or 100 MB it's not so important today, we have modern storage system and relative modern CPUs to handle that..
most important is to mantain the usual look and fell of the OS and of course mantain our tradition of "system clean".

Qt is very well designed so there is no problem in that way, also consider that in those 70 MBs is included the LibQtWebKit library that is a complete web browser per se, so you can make it even smaller if you want

@NicSoft

What is your problem with it ?

Open a thread here or on Amigans, we will certainly find the solution

Yes, that is all true, but I am just sad to see that we have to follow the lead of others whom we complained about ruthlessly in the past about bloated software.

That is important, I agree.

So well designed that Qt did not install correctly for me. So now during boot I receive a DOS notice which flashes by so fast that I cannot completely copy it down. It is something like: Can't add Qt:lib to SObjs
I suppose this is my fault. Then since the Qt install went awry I haven't tried installing SMTube yet.

Is there a special place where Qt is suppose to be installed to work correctly? It is so huge I did not want to install it to Sys: and perhaps that is the problem, but I don't like the idea of my system partition becoming so large.

I seem to be reaching the age where I just don't seem to care like I use to. If I have a problem with installation of software and the like I just discard it because I don't care any more. I wish I did not feel this way, but with comfortable retirement comes a very independent attitude. It use to be fun figuring out problems like this and I use to enjoy it.

Now, I've got so many irons in the fire I cannot keep up with the rest of you. I believe I've lost the gusto.

That's the life, the good old days when Commodore rules ..
Amiga today is a little niche for passionate, it's pretty normal that (if we want to stay modern using our system today) we should try to follow certain third party standard that sometimes are a bit different that our own

At the end it's not so different than having an OWB or MPlayer etc, all that technologies born on other platforms, then come to us ..

That's not a Qt fault, but the installer ..
Never had such problem on my system aniway

No, just some free space ..

Eventually You might try the minimal package (70 or so MBs)

http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtamigaosnative/files/beta/qt4.7-0.9.1-minimal.tar.gz/download

Well me too in general, but Qt it's worth

Thank you. I see that this package is much smaller than the 1070499840 qt4.7-0.9.0-b4.tar file I downloaded earlier and installed. I wish there was an uninstall to get rid of any unnecessary files it installed.

Agree, 70mb is nothing on todays hard-drives, and especially for a complete framework.

realize wasn't talking about the size of modern hard drives nor their ability to handle 70MB files. He was complaining about how bloated software is becoming. They are two different things.

Damn, I'm a new user regarding AmigaOS 4.1. (I had an old Amiga in the 90:s)
I'm not a programmer in any way. So is there an Arexx school anywhere, so that I can learn to configure things like this? And is there an Install - Amiga-program school anywhere, so that I can learn to install programs? I'm so used to Other Operating Systems (nowadays) doing installations (completely) automatically!

@Sidecar :
What are the problems that you encounter using SMTube ?

And what is your system configuration ?

You could open a dedicated thread, it will be easier to follow and to give help to you.

Welcome on AmigaOS 4

I have an AmigaOne 500.

I would need an "Installer" for the whole "package"!
Something that installs the needed programs (asking where to install) and then configure things. So that I don't have to do it manually.

I have found other AmigaOS 4 programs that installs "themself" luckily.
