Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : New PPaint 7.3b for AmigaOS4 available on AMIStore
posted by amigakit on 4-Aug-2016 20:56:51 (5853 reads)
A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a new version of Personal Paint for AmigaOS 4.1. The new version is free of charge upgrade for existing 7.3 customers now on AMIStore Amiga App Store. An updated version for OS3 will follow shortly.

The new 7.3b version is a maintainence release. Additionally, the distribution and installation have been brought in line with the recent Enhancer Software standards, with InfoWindow tool documentation viewing and optional black style icons designed by Martin "Mason" Merz.

If you do not yet own PPaint, you can purchase this new version by either visiting the official website (www.ppaint.com) or on the AMIStore App Store.

In 2015, Personal Paint for the Amiga was purchased by A-EON Technology Ltd and is being further developed by Andy Broad, member of the AmigaDeveloper.com Team. In keeping with our commitment to providing new quality software for the AmigaONE X1000, AmigaOS 4.1 compatible and Classic Amiga computers, expect further upgrades and enhancements to PPaint.

PPaint 7.3 simply eats Chip RAM for images even on RTG screens. Sure, for 320x200 it is no problem, but 1680x1050 256 colours needs nearly 1.8 MB.

Are you using the mode promotion faeture? ( PROMOTE = 24 in the prfs file ) Is planar on RTG switched on in GUI prefs ?

Not under OS4 I think.

It would be an extrnal setting to OS4, in the AmigaForever window or WinUAE settings window. Don;t if it works or not, you might be able to switch it off completey.

The main difference between 7.2+ and 7.1 is that they use graphics librar calls to allocate the offscreen bitmap, rather than rolling it's own bitmap, which is not safe todo on RTG and causes many of the OS4 bugs in the older versions.

I updated PPaint through AmiStore. I probably had previous version 7.3a (?) and first thing was to understand that instead of directly updating, the AmiStore update installed an install drawer that should be opened and the Install icon clicked. Then, some of the old files/drawers seem to be left instead of updated/deleted:

- PPAINT.debug (was 2014 version)
- Animations: there seem to be only Animations drawer icon, not the actual drawer
- several old documentation like faq and tutorial in the main drawer, the new documentation seems to be in Documentation drawer
- after deleting the old documentation and old .debug version, my PPaint drawer looks like this:

7.System:> dir work:PPaint/
libs (hakemisto)
H (hakemisto)
fonts (hakemisto)
Colors (hakemisto)
Brushes (hakemisto)
AnimBrushes (hakemisto)
Pictures (hakemisto)
Rexx (hakemisto)
Documentation (hakemisto)
PPaint_Prefs (hakemisto)
PPaint_Icons (hakemisto)
Animations.info AnimBrushes.info Brushes.info Colors.info
Documentation.info Fonts.info Libs.info Pictures.info
PPaint PPaint_Icons.info PPaint.info PPaint_Prefs.info
PPaint_PS PPView Rexx.info

Maybe the install script could delete deprecated files and make sure that the drawers are there if updating an old installation?

Marko

No. I use PicassoIV GFX card which supports my native resolution only in 16 bit. I could use UAEGFX with no such limitations, but emulation is not yet mature enough (speed, compatibility).

Amiga will not boot without Chip RAM.

No change in Chip RAM consumption.

Great A-Eon and Andy!

Thank you for your continued commitment and work on the Amiga platform. My X5K is at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA USA today and two of the apps that are front and center are PPaint and SketchBlock.

Thank you,
Bill "tekmage" Borsari

Thanks Bill, wish I could have been there, but non-Amiga business has kept me in New Zealand this time around. I will be at AMIwest in October.

Thanks for flying the Amiga flag.
