Sadly I only have the 68k version of SnoopDOS which doesn't display anything for this particular test.
Looking at my prefs file (Freespace.prefs) I don't have a "VideoPlayer = ..." line in there as yet.
Do you think it may boil down to not being ablt to enter my registration number?

For everybody having this problem, check if the players folder is write-protected. If it is, unprotect it. That should help. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

Not really. The game should open a 640x480x16 screen. If you can, try any other program that uses this resolution, or try to create on if you don't have one. Other than that, please try to make a screengrab and send me that in private mail - maybe that'll ring a bell. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. No, the registration can fail without problems. All binaries will be completely replaced.
Please have a look in your libs: directory and look for 'hyperionvideo.library' or 'fssound.library' and delete them if they are there. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

They aren't in my LIBS:

I have just tried it when removing hyperionvideo.library from that dir just in case, but still no joy there.

I removed the joystick from game port and disabled the joystick in game menu - and the graphics problems disappeared! I checked the libs: (there's no ajoy library there). Maybe the joystick has developed a fault (it's been used with A1200 with a analog joystick adapter without probs but it has been on the shelf for couple of years now)...still, the game menu recognises it and I can calibrate it ok... _________________ "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others." | Well, I can report that the game flows very moothly even on the maximum detail setting (A1-XE/800MHz + Radeon7000 + 256MB memory). Played through the training missions.
The only annoyance is that there is no sound and very shoppy animation during the intro cutscenes (both the Hyperion logo and the intro to the game itself). Also, don't use the left-ctrl to fire your weapons; It seems to mess with the numeric keypad steering, disabling some of them now and then. Firing with the right-ctrl instead seems to remedy this completely... (?)
Anyway, great job Hyperion! I bought this game ages ago, even before owning an A1 to (potentially) play it on. And it was worth the wait. It's a great game, what I've seen so far. . SlimJim |

| Nice treat - and probably also a welcome surprise for everyone lucky enough to have the hardware and OS to run Freespace - The Great War. Now, as I'm not one of them, I'm still curious on how the AmigaOS 4.0/PowerPC-version differs from the AmigaOS 3/68k-version? Does Freespace - The Great War for AmigaOS 4.0 take advantage of any of the new OS features, such as application.library?

| Euh, just a litle question, do we need the update to run freespace?
I have the same problem as FuZion and i think it stops at the dos.library.

-Reboot and the sound should work..:)..
-And to all, after installation of Freespace I couldn't save the config,no sound and some other strange behaviors....But after a reboot it worked...:)..
-If that don't work try the old FreeSpace launch , set some variables and then close, start the new launch, and then save should work...
-Sometimes we seeme to forget that even a Amiga needs to reboot after a install....:) _________________ AmigaOne G4 800Mhz, A1200TPPC 040/33 240Mhz, 2 A2000, A600,A600HD A500,A500+ and so on.....AmigaOS4.1....1500-2000 games!? And yeap, it's my dog...16 years old in 2015

That's an issue with the hyperionvideo.library, which is still 68k. Check the readme on how to use an external video player program.

Never heard about that one, I'll have to check. I mostly use the joystick, though

I thought that this is the problem when I tried to delete the old installation. At least the "cache" directory was protected. I chose "delete all", so I don't know which directories were also protected.

Rebooting should't be necessary. The issue with not being able to save your config is most likely that the player directories where write-protected. I originaly wanted to do a new installer that would be able to install the OS 4 version using the original Amiga Freespace CD, but I didn't have the time and didn't want to delay it any further _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. | Before I come home and try, can anybody tell me if amp will play the videos? And if not, is there any other video player I'm not aware of that can play them?

No, you don't need anything beyond the actual CD.

I thought in FuZion's case it simply exits?
This error address points to a routine reading the config file ("Freespace.prefs"). Please mail me your config file privately and I'll have a look. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| Over here the game has worked perfectly, full detail and no slowdowns (well maybe a little when close to a capital ship). The only problem is with the video playback being slow but that was to be expected.
Great work Rogue and everyone at Hyperion! |
