| Damn I want overlay yesterday! DVplayer almost manages to play a DVD in window mode with my µA1-C 750GX 800MHz. The sound playback is ok but the video stutters somewhat. In fullscreen mode it plays flawlessly!
These features will make this great player be the perfect player (IMHO):
* video scale, resize windows realtime during playback. * subtitles for DVD * DVD menu handling with mouse and keyboard * scale to fit screenmode in fullscreen mode * able to choose screenmode for fullscreen * able to playback encrypted DVD's * able to change color, brightness, contrast, sharpness etc. * maybe add some image enhancements like BNR, edge enhancers etc. * playback control window in fullscreen mode that pops up if you drag the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, like most player on other platforms have.
I know Cobra is working many of these things or he himself is waiting for OS features (overlay) to make some work. DVPlayer will have a great future I think.
@Cobra
Did you know that DVPlayer is behaving a bit strange if you press right mousebutton during playback? Slowing down and stuttering. Sometimes when you release the mousebutton it goes back to normal sometimes not.
@deakmann
Are you going to make a CSS plugin for DVPlayer when the API/SDK for DVPlayer I/O plugin is released? Please say YES! Last edited by Samwel on 20-Apr-2006 at 11:18 PM.

| @COBRA OK but i'm busy until sunday.
@Samwel Here on an A1 G4 1Ghz DVDs play super fast. And i can work, browse the web while watching it with a little slowdown.
Anyway overlay is needed! I'm wondering why we haven't it yet _________________ ikir

There is not a single line of code in DvPlayer to support wmv. There never was.
As for that ASL request, I'll see what I can do. |

You probably have a 32bit Workbench and 32bit is too slow for DVD playback (twice as much data needs to be transferred to the gfxcard as 16bit) this is a video bandwidth problem not a CPU issue. For fullscreen mode dvplayer uses 16bit by default, this explains why it plays smooth for you in fullscreen. With overlay it's possible to play smooth on a 32bit Workbench.
If you have blocking menus, then bringing up the menu will not allow other graphical operations on the screen, so it will stop dvplayer's video playback. Audio will keep playing for a few seconds because it's prebuffered, before that stops as well. When you release the menu, it will start playing again, but it may take a while for the audio and video to resync, depending on the video itself. Solution: Use non-blocking menus (GUI Prefs -> Menus -> Pull-down & Pop-up -> "Non blocking") |

| Ehh of course I have non blocking menus on.. This was one of the first things I changed when I installed update 4 The problem is something else.. It does not block the movie it just makes it stutter in fullscreen mode. I forgot to mention that it only happens in fullscreen mode.
Yes I have 32bit Workbench (of course?) as it gives best quality, especially for DVD playback. If I enter the 32bit tooltype will it playback fullscreen at 16bit anyway? Last edited by Samwel on 22-Apr-2006 at 04:22 AM.

Okay, fullscreen is a different story. There is triplebuffering going on in that case, so menus are not supposed to work at all during playback (the OS menu system only works on a signle screen buffer AFAIK). If you set depth to 32 in tooltypes, then it will use a 32bit screen of course for full screen, instead of 16. |

I`d love to but unfortunately I`m just not that clever, sounds like there`s every chance someone will do it once the API Docs are released though :) |

Out of curiosity, why the interest with WMV? You do have access to Laszlo's Moovid code, right? From what I know, he nearly conquered all the Quicktime formats (minus the new h263 and h264 MP4 formats), although I don't know if the version with Quicktime audio or Quicktime VR (?) will see the light of day. I also believe he made good progress with the RealVideo formats. Wouldn't it make sense to start there?
BTW, I'm not an OS4 user yet, but am also pleased to see DVPlayer making steady progress. I suspect the DVD support will keep you busy for quite a while.
