@Sweden keyboard users

What keyboard do you use, usb or ps2 and on what amiga hardware. Do you have keyboard with windows keys for bringing up @ sign ? How do you get your @ sign with your keyboard. I have to know where the problem is so i dont just tell the brothers it doesnt work ;)

I have to use left windows key + 2 to get the @ sign. I use x1000 and logitech k750 with usb on x1000. I had same problem when i used the older beta on my A1.

So please more info then just it works :)

Sounds like you're not using the "official" keyboard? If so, on the X1000 your Alt and Amiga (Win) keys will be swapped in relation to their keycaps.

You have to set the CFE variable keymap_swapaltamiga to "off" to fix this.

(In the firmware prompt, issue the command "setenv -p keymap_swapaltamiga off", then reset.)

If this doesn't solve it, try elaborating over on the Hyperion support forums.

Best regards,

Niels

@nbache

Its only in timberwolf it doesnt work, all other apps/system works. For example owb/muiowb/ibrowse/aweb, shell etc.

If i use the setenv -p keymap_swapaltamiga off then the right ALTGR works in timbrewolf. I can get the @ sign to show. Left window and left ALT will not work in timberwolf but works in shell and other apps.

However then another problem comes when using this setenv. I cant copy/paste in shell/notepad etc if i use this swapaltamiga. only works for example in owb with copy paste. Also i cant softreboot either :)

@Kicko
Hmm, strange. On my X1000, where I also use a PC keyboard, I have that variable set. And I get the @ sign fine, both inside TW and elsewhere. Alt Gr+2.

@nbache:

I had a similar trouble to amigasociety. When I try to execute the command
fc-cache -r -f
as mentioned in the readme document, I get the following message:
fc-cache: illegal option -- r
usage: fc-cache [-fsvV?] [dirs]
Build font information caches in [dirs]
(all directories in font configuration by default).

-f (force) scan directories with apparently valid caches
-s (system) scan system-wide directories only
-v (verbose) display status information while busy
-V (version) display font config version and exit
-? (help) display this help and exit

It appears that the -r option is not supported by my installed version of fc-cache, which is:
899980 bytes in size, dated 2 Sept 2005 (version does not return a version string for it, so this is the best I can do). Is there perhaps a newer version of fc-cache out there which for some reason I don't have?

UPDATE: I noticed fc-cache has its own version option -V. Version number is 2.3.2

Anyway, using the -s option causes Timberwolf to start more quickly, but now muiOWB starts slowly and rebuilds all of its fonts! So I can only use one or the other until I get this sorted out.

Other than that little installation trouble, I'm very happy with Timberwolf itself. It seems quite fast enough on my A1XE 800MHz, although it did crash on startup the second time I ran it. I will file bug reports at the appropriate location, of course.

@mr_homm

You lost your way a long time ago.

My version of fc-cache is dated 01Jul2009 and is from the Amigaos 4.1 update2 archive.

9.System:> list "RAM Disk:Update 2/Files_NoArch/C/fc-cache"
Directory "RAM Disk:Update 2/Files_NoArch/C" on Sunday 19-Feb-12
fc-cache 72781 ----rwed 01-Jul-09 15:36:58
1 file - 71K bytes - 4 blocks used

@All

This is my first post using TW, it's not fast enough for every day use but opens new doors for the Amiga and when the speed issue is resolved it will rock

@nbache

I use the swapaltamiga, so now i can use the @ sign with both the left ALT (only in the system, not timberwolf) and the ALtGR (works in both system apps and Timberwolf).

But then the copy/paste dont work.

I remember on my A1 (mick helped me) i changed a settings in envarc:usb/hid.keyboard/rgui with 0x000700E4. That way i can use the right Ctrl for copy/paste. I just copied that file from my A1 to my X1000 and it works :) I dont know if this way is the best. You can see how my keyboard looks like here. Maybe i should use another key then the right Ctrl ?

Well that's a bit of a mystery -- the other three fc- files from the same update are there, only fc-cache was still a very old version. I guess the installer failed to copy over that file and I didn't notice!

The newer fc-cache is now installed and problem solved. Thanks!

@kicko

Got it this time. Wow, those keys are a lot bigger than the keys on the Logitech I am using.

What are those 2 panels at the top of the keyboard? They almost look like mirrors.

They look like solar cells to me, similar to those on a solar powered calculator. Solar powered wireless keyboard? Sweet!

Yes they are solar. I dont have light enough in my room to charge it but anyway i have run it for months and months without it telling me that the battery is low :)

I had Logitech dinovo edge before but it lacked the numpad and i had to charge once a month. Later i used it as a media keyboard in my tvroom. There i had to charge it 2 times a month. Best keyboard i had but i want my keyboards to run for months. So therefore K750 was a good replacement and it has numpad too. Or maybe its not called numpad ? the numbers to the right of the arrow keys.

Now i have another keyboard in my tvroom. Logitech K400. Much lower quality but its smaller and the battery holds at least a year they say. What i lack there is the pageup/down etc and the arrow keys are put before the right shift so you get nuts often typing in facebook etc and the touchpad is good but it often gets me problem when typing text. But then its small and intended for tv room. Would be better if i worked for Logitech as designer for keyboards :)

Right, you've got one of those crippled keyboards lacking the right Win key, which means you now don't have any Right Amiga key for menu shortcuts.

Normally, people use the Menu or Application key for that, as it is often the one replacing the right Windows key. I think there's even a special env (or UBoot?) variable for that switch. But in your case, you don't have that key either, but instead that Fn key, which most likely does not send any normal keycode and cannot be seen by AmigaOS. So in your case, I'd probably also go for the Ctrl key. Most, if not all, Amiga applications will not distinguish between the right and the left Ctrl keys, so you can live without one of them. And of course, a classic Amiga keyboard only has one anyway.

Best regards,

Niels

Update ...

IMHO this beta version of Timberwolf is a major improvement over the alpha release. However, I cannot create or show bookmarks. This seems to be a common problem. Bookmarks work fine for some users but not for others. I am currently using a bootmark.html file (copied from another source) as my home page.

My system is a MicroA1 with 256MB of RAM. Although Timberwolf seems to be stable, it uses up too much RAM for such a small system. At this time, I will continue to use one of the other web browsers as my main web browser.

Sorry for the error, yes, it is

fc-cache -s -f

and not -r.
