| Thank you Hyperion
Now the only missing thing is the complete support for the internal Sata port (DMA) on the 460ex |

| Got update 5 installed on my A1 XE last night. Seems to work fine so far.
Thing is those improvements must not be making any difference on my setup. OWB takes just as long as before to start up.
As for the asynchronous network startup, I had to figure out how to switch it back to the old way. That broke a lot of my stuff, because some things were being run from User-Startup and from the Workbench Startup before the network was up, causing them to fail. That took editing my Startup-Sequence file to change how it works. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site.

| The whole point of the Network-Startup script is that you put anything that needs the network to be ready at the end of Network-Startup instead of User-Startup. _________________ Playstation Network ID: xeron6

Working fine so far this evening, after the system was powered off all day. During the week I use this system during the evening after I get home from work. The system is powered off when not in use.
After reading further in this thread, I will have to move some network related stuff from my User-Startup file to the new Network-Startup file.
The following explanation is a bit long, but maybe the whole story will help explain what happened.
I have only one hard drive. Normally, when I am preparing for an upgrade, I backup my S: directory, Envarc: directory and Monitor settings file to my small FFS2 partition, and then I copy the same files to a USB stick for additional protection. Sometimes I copy to all three of my USB sticks. One is a Kingston DataTraveler, one is a Lexar JumpDrive formatted for FFS2, and one is a Duracell 4GB SDHC card plugged into a Durcell SD to USB adapter that plugs into the USB connectors on my system. It looks like a fat USB stick. All three normally work well with no issues.
Yesterday evening was different. The backup to the FFS2 partition went fine. Copy from FFS2 partition to Kingston USB stick went fine. Copy from FFS2 partition to Lexar JumpDrive was slower than usual. Copy from FFS2 partition to Duracell SDHC card froze the system part way through. In each case, I used the same USB connector on the machine, unplugging the previous USB stick and inserting the next USB stick into the same USB connector.
Warm boot from the keyboard did not work. I had to do a cold boot. After that, copy from FFS2 partition to Duracell SDHC card went fine.
I tried to launch NetSurf and my internet connection seemed to be stalled. Same with OWB.
Reset the computer again, NetSurf ok, downloaded the Update and installed it with no problems.
After the automated system reboot, it came up as expected, but it seemed a little slower than before. It is hard to describe. It is the same feeling as when I use AmigaOS 3.1 on E-UAE. It responds fine but, there is a very slight delay when I move the mouse. I feel the same delay on my laptop at work when the virus checker kicks in. It still responds but it is busy doing the virus checker thing in the background.
After powering off and on the system, everything appears to be fine.

Sounds like a good idea, except some stuff doesn't run from User-Startup (like Wet for example).
Most of my network stuff is started from Workbench's WBStartup system, not from User-Startup. I have some scripts that take care of mapping to some shared drives on my server which I could move to Network-Startup, but that's about all I could move. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site.

You can run stuff that needs to be started from WB to work from Network-Startup as well. Just use the WBRun command. Last edited by salass00 on 19-Aug-2012 at 04:58 PM.
