News   News : What OS should be proposed by retailers regarding Vampire V4 Standalone?
   posted by AmiDelf2 on 2-Jan-2020 13:37:07 (6403 reads)
Help the Apollo Team to decide where to go with their new Amiga Compatible motherboard
Vampire V4 Standalone.

What OS should be proposed by resellers as an option for the Vampire V4 Standalone?

Amitopia Amiga Magazine is supporting the Apollo Team and all of the Amiga Community so that the Amiga future is promising for everyone. We were asked to put this here because of many retailers and Apollo Team. We hope that this will help sales.

Vote here on Amitopia website

On a more serious note, I've always considered Linux to be the perfect starting point for a modern AmigaOS, it certainly seemed to work out well for Apple.

Someone will take the bait.

That ship has long since sailed away and hit an iceberg, I think it would have been a viable option once but not now.

Anyway, getting back to the V4...it seems to me that AROS is the best bet.

Only those should vote, who are going to buy one. I'm skeptical for a numbers of voters.

the survey is irrelevant anyhow

the creator of the survey did it obviously to create some new clicks pretending it would be "official"

@OlafS25

Just to be fair, here is what Amitopia has to say:

Quote:
Amitopia Amiga Magazine wants to thank the retailers for sending us the request. They wanted not to be mentioned as it is for marketing purposes and also to see what people want to buy.

thats really reassuring that it is someone anonymous who let organise this kind of polls by proxy individuals. must be a modest benefactor of the community or the like.

while at it, here is an appropriate thread on the official site of the project, started by the autor and also there is statements of other members of the team backing up the stance:
http://apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=1¬e=26821&z=_IwhTL

but hey, dont bother, thats irrelevant. in the end everybody can install whatever they want on their setup. and if resellers want to mess with this, its their right and responsibility. i dont think the team will issue the clause to prohibit this, but it isnt my call either, to tell.

as Wawa said the facts are there

There is a tight cooperation now between Team Aros and Apollo/Vampire

Aros offers a full package out of the box (Rom, AHI, MUI, RTG, Network Stack, USB...) and it is open so it can be optimized for vampire

3.1.4 is closed and will not special optimized for Apollo. Additional you would need lots of extra licenses to get on par with Aros.

The users can of course decide to use exclusive 3.1.4 with its limitations or only use Aros or both
