Imagine, someone buys an AmigaOne for the kids, there's a broswer and rudimentary WP, and paint prg (I assume). And then there's this 3d modeler there, too! What fun that'd be? |
Aaahhh... that reminds me of my first Amiga 500. It came with a free copy of Reflections. I first thought this was a simple painting program. When I opened the manual, I couldn't believe my eyes. I could do photorealistic pictures like the ones you could see on tv?! With a free program?! I didn't think this was possible with a home computer at that time.

Your numbers are seriously flawed. This assumes that there is zero cost for development/porting, and that is absolutely not the case. R&D costs money. Alladin wouldn't port itself by just rubbing the lamp. You would need to pay at least one or two developers for a certain amount of time, and that'll easily add up to another $20K.
From a mass market point of view, $7 is a killer, especially if the added value is questionable. (Note: I am not saying Alladin 4D is crap, I am just asking "how many people will change their mind and buy an AmigaOne based on this fact"?).
Bottom line, it's not commercially feasible to buy this and bundle it with AmigaOS 4.0. Whether it's feasible to spent $35k on the Amiga market or not is a different question - I know some games that can be gotten for less than that amount and will probably sell better (again, nothing against Aladdin, but games are generally more mass-marketable than specialized application software). _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. | @bobson:
Sorry to hear about the work situation.
One of the few constances in life : Things do change.
I hope there is a silver lining in this apparent dark cloud and you can figure out how to turn the changing market to your advantage.
I look forward to seeing some of your work, PTL and Thanks!

Hi Rogue,
"Alladin wouldn't port itself by just rubbing the lamp." Hehehehe!!
Well I thought that the big picture would be, down the road, it gets a lower and lower per unit cost.
Also, I don't know the full story, can it work on just JIT? Does it HAVE to be ported? It claimed it was C, and highly portable. There's no reason to actually bring it up to any of the current highest performing programs, such as Lightwave, Alias/Wavefront, Maya, SGI's Indigo, etc..

The source code is in in the C programming language and is well commented standard C code. |
AmigaOne! Pre-AOS4.0! There's OTHER OS's??? Why?
P.S. BTW: I thought I'd mention, in case you weren't aware of how I felt, Thank You and the rest of "Team Hyperion" for keeping this dream alive!!!! |

That only means that over the time you will minimize your losses. This way you will never get your $35K+X back. That is commercially completely unviable.

Of course. Why would you buy the program source code? Why would you rely on a 68k emulator for a type or program where you can naturally never get enough speed? The sample code definitely looks nice, but in any case you will have work porting it. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| BTW what ever happend to Tornado 3D, it was PPC and Warp3D right ??
I would rather see that one running on AOS4.
Personally I loved and used Imgine a lot, so an AOS port of that would be welcomed here. _________________

| Yes, where is Tornado 3D today? I know they made a PC version that was more advanced and it wasn't named Tornado 3D..
It was a very good program with REALLY fast updates.. Where are the coders???
Tornado 3D for AmigaOS 4 would be just amazing.. It could have become the best raytracer on the planet if the Amiga market wouldn't have died..
The last verion was 3.0, I think. Haage & Partner sold it at some point. It also was really REALLY cheap for what it offered. I believe it was better than all other raytracers on Amiga, incl. Lightwave (latest Amiga version), Real3D and all others.

| Hmmm, I will have to look at the Source Code Samples when I get some time. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer.

hmm just about LW. The good thing about tornado was RTG screen and PPC support. But its all. LW is faaar superior in modelling possibilities and in quality of raytracing... (You cant compare LW in version 5 or even v4 with Aladdin or Tornado3D)
and yes Tornado 3D was buggy like hell... |
