News   News : The new amiga.com
   posted by mjohnson on 18-Mar-2005 10:21:04 (13865 reads)
The new Amiga Inc. website has finally been unveiled.

Apart from the updated design and new content, there are also a few interesting news item, especially this one: "KMOS, Inc. announces the formal change of its corporate name and legal identity to Amiga, Inc."

It also seems that AmigaAnywhere is back in the game, now released at version 1.5

C'mon Bob. Let's turn it around, they do something and we all have to sing and praise the lord. This is called critisism Bob. I know we should not trash them in the ground but this is just critisism. Sorry if I don't break out the guitar and play and sing and praise everyone. I am not talking about the layout but I am talking about the news. Nothing new.

I agree %100. I get sick of the Fanboi posts as well.

I just don't like all the posts that are going over the deep end.

@BobW

I don't care about layout I just want the content to be good. And that is what is failing. I mean you never get a 100% agree on the look. But like I said the content is zero.

That would be better!!!
And...I think the new site was up on 16 March...and you have the right content...so...

Do everyone see what they could have done in three days?

More content would also be appreciated...

Ayalo That's very nice.

Do you mind a bit of constructive critisism?

The redy/orange colour on the left and right sides isn't quite right. It need tweaking or better still replacing. The only other thing is, the right hand links look a bit OTT, I think text links would look better, the images clash with the red a bit.

Aside from that it's great.

I can not speak about the folks who posted here. I do not know them well, if at all. But at my work I've found that people who scream "Professional" the loudest fall into two catagories. The larger group wants to load a site with enough bells & whistles to sink the Titanic again. The smaller group (fortunately) would not know "professional" if it bit them.

Again, the above paragraph is not directed at any member here, but I would like to see the reasons for these opinions.
amen, brother.
I've made web pages and am redoing my site for sale on a CD and I go OUT of my WAY to make sure it's all readable on an amiga browser. Just to be polite! (and this dispite the fact that I do almost all my html coding on linux these days and check them in Opera first. But I check them in IBrowse 2nd).

clean and easy to navigate are better than chaos and wham bam!

Never heard of a company needing a computer artist(?) for an intranet. I guess they need pretty pages that no-one can see
you must know that InTRAnet means inhouse and only available to the people working in that office.

I've been asked by a certain company who's name i won't mention because they like to be annonymous to eventually make a site that is available to people in the office - and visitors!

eventually they may want this content online.

InTRAnet is not unusual at all.

AmigaOne Partners have the right to distribute AmigaOS 4.0 into the AmigaOne desktop computer market and into Cyberstorm PPC enabled devices.

What about BPPC version of AmigaOS 4.0? Does anyone have any clues?

From: going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

I'm with our Norwegian linux-wiz on this one, I think the most important thing is that it's accessible. It works, you know, it fulfills its purpose. (Now, once the lynch mob is properly assembled, remember that Mr. Hvitmyren is first in line, and I'd gladly change my opinion on this topic in order to avoid a beating. )

Of course, I'm sure it could have been done better. And the big Casino bling-bling front page doesn't look too reassuring.

I also think that the OS section isn't all what it used to be. And how come you can no longer purchase "Amiga Anywear" from the gift shop? Pity, there was some cool stuff in there. Then again, I've already got a t-shirt.

And where's CAM? WHERE'S CAM?!?!?!?!?! IT'S THE MIDDLE OF MARCH, GODDARNIT!!

But again, as I said, I think it works. And it's at least very thrilling to see some movement behind the curtains. I definitely believe it's a move in the right direction, now let's hope for a few more moves along the same path.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing either that Mr. McEwen (and Fleecy? anyone?) is still involved in a managing position. I'm sure the man has some experience that might be of some value to the corporation, or else he wouldn't still be around, now would he?

It'll be interesting to find out what Mr. Hare has to say on sunday, to clarify some of the confusion regarding the future of the desktop Amiga as we know it, among other things.

I doubt it will be dumped after OS4.0, neither Hyperion nor Eyetech would have even started or continue the AmigaONE and Amiga OS projects if the knew that.. To much money has been poured into it for it to just pull the plug now.

Right ?

Exactly. Add also the fact that if AInc no longer has any interest at all in a desktop OS, then there's no reason for them to not just lean back and collect the license fees while they focus on their primary tasks.

Though it is a bit fuzzy on the web page atm, IMHO. So, as I said, some clarification would be welcome. (Or maybe I'm just unbelievably dense today. Naah, impossible! )

@AW.net staff

Why the news backend on www.amiga.com is not updated? It doesn't show the lastest news.

@Ikir

That is not the fault of AmigaWorld.net ... they (Amiga Inc.) are not using the Newsfeed... looks like they don't like to use the javascript (although they should be able to make the server translate it...).

well, people should re-read fleecys q&a sessions regarding os4 and os5.

at that time os5 already hass been in development inside amiga inc. os4 was given to an external company which has the ability to port from 68k to ppc. amiga inc. is concentrating at os5 and beyond.
this has been the plan since the first moment.

so telling that the successors of os4 are not developped by externals is abolutely true...

byebye...
