| My first thoughts where COOL, one of the, if not the first AmigaOS demo in an normal computer show...
But then i thought, hold on... isnt this a little early. OS4 isnt the most stable of OSes, and its kinda slow, at the moment, which i think actualy doesnt help add to the stability. Now im a little afraid people are gunna walk away from the stand less then impressed...
Im only going by what i've seen of the OS, and apparantly what i saw was due to bad configuration. I hope the machine is perfectly configured and given a once, twice, billionth through before the big day! |

| Correction: the name of the company's stand where the A1 demo will take place is of course _Stellar_ Dreams, appologies for the typo.
Perhaps an admin could correct it for me, thanks.

Well, last time the Amiga made its "first impression", it blew the world away with a boing ball. Today, is there anything there to blow anyone away? How about a boot time of, what's the current figure, ten seconds? Can a wintel get out of DOS in that time? And considering how OS4 looks and, apparently also feels, which is: awesome, the fast boot is twice as impressive. I think most PC-people who have enough knowledge/interest in computing to visit such an event would find that at least a little bit intriguing.
As far as speed goes, well, I've seen OS'es with a lot more development time during the past ten years, and with twice the miggahorts, not perform....so well. If we are to believe half of what has been told in the numerous reports during the past months/weeks, I think there's a fair chance OS4 will knock anyone off their feet.
And what if an unpleasant bug shows its ugly face? I'm sure it will be made more than obvious that "it's a pre-release version", and I think there's a fair chance that most audience members with primary experience from "another OS" would be more surprised by the fact that the bug would be acknowledged and tagged for removal prior to public release, than they would by the bug itself.
Let's rock! _________________

| It's a shame, but nowadays the public at large expects bugs in even released software, so I don't think anything short of the entire computer blowing up is going to cause a very negative impression. However, if the demo goes along without a hitch, that *will* cause a good impression.
The one thing they better have in demoable condition is ibrowse, nowadays you can't demo a computer to "joe sixpack" that does not have a web browser.
That's the sorry state of computing today: stability is not the most desirable thing, but an integrated web browser is... this is where the amiga can really shine; Linux is rock-solid, but even Red Hat says it's not ready for the desktop. The Amiga was once a credible player on the desktop, it just needs a bit of spit and polish to be back in that respect. Add the stability of Linux, and that's what will wow the users. Not fancy graphics or cool sound, that's been done by everyone else - it's just the sheer pleasure of using it (hey, there's a cool marketing slogan ) |

| In any case, it won't be (AFAIK) THE official release session with much fanfare of OS4. Even the immensely huge OS Windows2000 (I think it was) crashed with the in/famous "Blue Screen of Death" event at its own release. Bugs are something "normal" these days anyhow. I paid $90AUD for Ravenshield (great game BTW), yet it STILL has heaps of bugs in it. OS4 though is still not officially released, so I doubt that would be a put off to many people.
Also, I am sure that the Micromart show will continuously point out that OS4 is still in the Alpha stage, as was pointed out incessantly at the Melbourne OS4 show. _________________

| I think we should get everyone in the UK to go to the show and crowd around the stand. Then everyone else will wonder whats going on, and start to crowd around, and before you know it, Amiga Riot! Yeah, thats going to leave a mark, uhh impression. |

Yes I have IBrowse up and running on my A1 now, and will be transfering our own SEAL website onto my hard drive to show it off
I will also be pointing out to anyone who shows an interest in it that it is an early development version of Amiga OS4! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card.

You mean like a ringer in the crowd "wow look at that everyone, I'll take two of those!" like in the market scene in Only Fools and Horses
Well it worked against BT, Vodafone et all with the bidding for 3G licenses didn't it. The "ringer" in the crowd says, wow, I'll have one of those for 2 Billion pounds please... just to get the ball rolling! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card.

| Please please tell me that you have TrueType fonts installed, that you've turned on the AntiAliasing and that you've configured IBrowse to use TrueType fonts on your OS4beta box
I have. and it looks fantastic!

| Duudes !
I seem to have been granted permish for a little 'time out' sunday, for this very reason !
I may well have a toddler (mine !) in tow - buggies being useful for bringing any bargs / freebie scams etc home on the train without over stretching the arms.
Please excuse the somewhat dubious phraseology, just... a) seen the scene from 'Nemo' with the Turtles, b) FINALLY got me Relecting telescope out (after a hiatus of about 6 years ?!?!) and got a look at Mars (still good) and reacquainted meself with Saturn (absolutely superb !) so I'm pretty chuffed.
If anyone doesnt recognise me, I am nowt like me avatar ! Ill be the 6" tall beardie muppet in a leather jacket pushin ma youngest in a Maclaren Buggy. so ner. _________________ XH558 - the worlds last flying Vulcan. ok, its actually XL426 in the picture but you know what I mean.
