posted by GadgetMaster on 8-Mar-2004 20:36:55 (2892 reads)
The dynamics of the Amiga market has changed forever. Gone are the days Amiga users will have to pay exorbitant prices to expand their computers. Today I am please to announce Anachronism Industries has purchased all rights and remaining stock of the Prometheus from Matay.

Hopefully this means more development, completion of DMA to motherboard support, and perhaps a new layout that better fits my A4000T, and perhaps layout versions that directly replace A3000/4000 desktop riser cards. Oh what wonderful possibilities there are, I hope to see some actually happen!

"completion of DMA to motherboard support"

That would simply rock. But I guess that it would require a lot of effort, it seems that developing true DMA Zorro III cards is quite difficult...

I also would like to see an updated model which fits better in my A4000T...

And some way of updating the firmware via software would be wellcome. Or at least some way of updating the board without sending it anywhere...

I like the price on that PCI expansion for my A3000. I'm getting back into the Amiga after stumbling across an A3000 for $20.

I desperately want a GFX/Video card for it but they seem to either A) Be in very short supply. B) Cost way more than I want to spend.

Now the question is if I get that PCI expansion, Prometheus PCI, what video cards will work? Where do I find drivers? Can I use a standard PCI Network card? Will I still be able to use the Zorro slots?

Thanks.

The Voodoo 3 is the best supported PCI graphics card on classic Amigas, across all the PCI solutions.

With the prometheus, you can use a 10Mb ethernet card. AFAIK, only the mediator allows 100Mb cards.

Thanks for the info. Now I just need to start scrounging up the money and I will be set.

Now I guess the question I should have asked is if this is a RTG solution. Will WB display on the Voodoo card?

Absolutely! Each Prometheus board comes with a Picasso96 license and full Workbench support.
