| Obvious question:
Since there's no mention of AmigaOS4 in the "changes" page, does this mean that none of the changes made for AmigaOS 4 are in there, or that not ALL are in there, so therefore not a supported target yet? And are we aiming for 3.5? _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). | ISTR reading on some random GCC mailing list that someone (here?) pointed me at, that there was no way in hell that the AmigaOS4 changes would get in there in time for the 3.4 release, and the author should aim for a 3.5 release.
Or something, IIRC, YMMV, etc
[Edit] I think it was somewhere on this thread, though I cant find it now... _________________

I don't know, but I think that the AmigaOS 4.0 version will get part of the GCC sources when it is done/stable ... _________________ Best regards, hnl_dk - Henning Nielsen Lund [Denmark]

| @olegil I asked this question a long while back myself. From what I've been told, AmigaOS 4 is not yet an official target. The changes for GCC 3.4 were completed too late to make it into the release. Generally speaking, you are only allowed to add new targets to GCC at the start of a release cycle. In other words, it was purely a timing thing. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

| It's no biggie anyway. All Hyperion has to do is provide the sources in their website (or maybe just a link to the baseline sources and the Hyperion diffs) and that's it. Anyone who'd care about AmigaOS binaries would know about Hyperion anyway.
Fast-forward to this time next year (gcc seems to have a 1 year development cycle for major version numbers) and the code will be mainlined.
In the meantime, we have about a year to find out any glitches/possible improvements with the AmigaOS version of gcc and get them quickly fixed. Gcc patches can take weeks to get merged into the main tree, so in a sense this is a good thing; we get rapid development initially and stabilty later on. |

| AFAIK it was just a timing issue. The (not integrated) 3.4 is on the developer CD/Preview anyway. So, if you want to develop for OS4 with it, you should have it with the OS4 Preview/Dev CD. _________________ AmigaOne XE G3/933/VIA/FM801/R200 (fixed), G3SE/600/Voodoo3/Sil680/RTL8139/SBLive! | The difference being obviously that if you're part of the tree at point 3.4, changes done to the tree (by other people) towards 3.5 won't (usually) break your bits. This is very important... _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Yes, but as said. It was just a matter of time. The changes are ready to find its way back into the maintree, but didn't for the 3.4 release (there are some deadlines for these things). That's all about. Guess 3.5 will have AOS4 integrated. _________________ AmigaOne XE G3/933/VIA/FM801/R200 (fixed), G3SE/600/Voodoo3/Sil680/RTL8139/SBLive!
