Software News   Software News : AmigaOS4 Video of native P96 drivers
posted by MikeB on 9-Jul-2004 5:12:58 (8222 reads)
Within our forums Xeron pointed to a video made by an OS4 betatester demonstrating the native P96 graphics drivers:

"One of the OS4 betatesters put this video of native P96 on his homepage. This is not an official OS4 demonstration, just one users machine. The picture quality is low, but it gives an idea of the speed. Check it out:"

Very impressive indeed .

I wonder, will the gfx system still see even more speed improvements once SNAP is integrated (When its done )?

The last thing to see (another video ? Yeessss ! ) is a dma enabled workbench that will show the speed that can reach the windows content (icons) refresh...

After this we will have an almost complete look to the future for the real feeling of the finished OS...

Credits where credits are due, this is not the work of Hyperion but the work of a very dedicated and very talented group of developers, and some of them happen to be Hyperion people

This is the result of everything working together. As you can see, there's still something in stock for future updates

Ok, now that I managed to see that video....

AOS4 seem to behave as snappy as AOS needs to.

That was 68k IBrowse, right?
An no JIT?
With IDE DMA?

Not too bad.

I think that was PDF that was viewed at some point... looks faster than the 2.6Ghz P4 at work...

Heh.. well, try playing back this file in 15fps
(mplayer -fps 15 os4.avi) and have a good laugh.

(not making any other comments here as I don't want to cause trouble,
just see for yourselves )

@ Merko

Mr Rönnblom, here are two quotes from Ben Hermans at ANN with regard to the allegations directed against the beta-tester:

Quote:
The video is quite real.

It is truly hilarious to see all this conspiracy nonsense.

The fact of the matter is that the Developer Pre-release has a Radeon driver with NO blitting support and a 68K Picasso96.

Not hard to beat that with a somewhat optimised, fully PPC native P96 using a Radeon driver with blitting support.

Quite frankly, the smell of desperation in certain quarters is getting somewhat overwhelming.

Quote:
Hyperion does not "endorse" the video as such, it is a video produced by a beta-tester and is in no way "endorsed" as official.

It does however accurately reflect the current state of affaires.

Most of the other unofficial videos until now made use of the very unoptimised Radeon drivers using the 68K version of P96.

The video from Crisot is using the native version of P96 with the accelerated Voodoo 3 driver.

The same results can be obtained with the soon to be released optimised Radeon drivers.

I am sure we will see some better quality videos in the not so distant future.

BTW, are you still employed by Genesi? In any case this doesn't look like proper behaviour to me. How would you feel if the Frieden brothers went to MorphZone to spread doubts....

Maybe I should think more positively. It looks like the competition thinks AmigaOS4 is too fast to be true and that's actually an indirect compliment.
