Seriously, i'm planning to do a gui version.. but the problem is, i have to use the console version as base, but its by no means prepared for a GUI.. so i have to do many changes before it'll be usable via a GUI (which itself has also to be written yet).. additionally it should contain a bit GUI-only features, such as batch processing, multitasking, etc.. so don't hold your breath.. _________________ Regards, Cyborg. | This is cool. a useful piece of software is ported that I didnt even know people needed. I mean, we're all hanging out for amizilla etc, but right under our noses the gaps in our software catalog are being filled, and our amigas become just that bit more useful. Excellent work. |

| Impressive! I converted a 450MB mpeg file into bin format and it was done in less than five minutes. And the source file was on my pc! Shame though I can't get MakeCD to work on OS4-Pre, so I had to transfer the converted file back to the pc to be able to burn it as a VCD. But the end result was very satisfying.
Great work! |

| mono: makecd works, its been discussed widely here and i have the solution.
Edit all settings in your makecd icon (write drive/read drive) etc since the prefs wont work.
other than that it should work straight off.
(here is my icon tooltypes just incase...) (ps im a betatester but i have helped other pre release owners before with this)
WRITE_DEVICE=a1ide.device WRITE_UNIT=2 WRITE_DRIVER=CDR_SCSI3_ATAPI BUFFER=10000 SPEED=0 READ_DEVICE=a1ide.device READ_UNIT=2 READ_DRIVER=CD_ATAPI AUDIO_READ_SPEED=0 BYTEORDER_LSF INCOMPLETE=Ignore BLOCKS1_DEVICE= BLOCKS1_UNIT=0 BLOCKS1_START=0 BLOCKS1_END=0 REMOVE_AUDIO_PAUSE=0 BUFFER_CHUNK=20 IGNORE_OVERFLOW AUDIO_WRITE_SPEED=0 HAS_SETTINGS FIXATION_SPEED=0 BUFFER_IMAGES=10000 BUFFER_CHUNK_IMAGES=20 BUFFER_AUDIO=20000 BUFFER_CHUNK_AUDIO=20 AUDIO_MODE=AHI AHI_UNIT=0 DAO_SPEED=32 ISO_ONLINE_SPEED=0 FULL_BUFFER DATA_READ_SPEED=0 COM_WRITE_CDR= COM_FIX_REPAIR_FORMAT= COM_AFTER_CREATING= COM_AFTER_WRITING= COM_ON_ERROR= COM_ON_INSERT= EJECT_AFTER_WRITING EJECT_ON_INSERT USER_LEVEL=1 FIX_UP=CD-R WRITE_MODE=Real DEF_BASE_DIR=Games: DEF_WRITE_MODE=1 DEF_DATA_MODE=0 DEF_CDDA_START=0 DATA_CACHE=8 DIR_CACHE=16 FL_NODES=40 FH_NODES=16 RETRIES=32 DIRECT_READ FAST_SEARCH SPEED_INDEX=1 TRADEMARKFILE=System40:Utilities/apps/MakeCD/CD32.TM DOS_BOOT_IMAGE= DOS_BOOT_EMU=NO_EMU NO_QUICKHELP MAKECD_BURN_PROOF WARNING_LOW_BUFFER_TEXT2=Could only allocate 61804KB for the buffer WARNING_LOW_BUFFER_TEXT1=instead of the requested 62000KB. so the steps in general: set a1idedevice , set drive id etc.
btw are you cable/dsl/adsl?

Thanks! Now I'm one step closer to making it work. It now succesfully completes a test burn, but, alas, it still hangs when writing for real
Before: Hanged both in test mode and write mode. Some activity on the burner in the lead in phase, then nothing. MakeCD window doesn't update or refresh. IDE bus completely frozen, only a poweron/off helped (possibly an IDE reset would've helped to). The OS could still be used tho.
Now: Completes the test burn, but still hangs when writing for real, just after or during the lead in. The progress bar doesn't update during test or real mode. After the burner goes silent, MakeCD doesn't update or refresh. The same goes for the rest of the OS. The IDE bus doesnt hang now tho, so a normal reset works fine. CD-R is written to and hence unusable.
I use a Plextor DVD-R/W PX-708A as master on IDE bus 1. MakeCD version is the public beta 10 (registered). The Plextor works excellently otherwise, both with the Mount Rainier feature of OS4 and also as a normal CD-ROM drive. I've also succesfully flashed the firmware of the burner from OS4. I'm beginning to suspect the drivers in MakeCD isn't too happy with the Plextor. I've ordered a dual layer DVD-R/W for my pc and will replace the Plextor with the CD-R/W currently situated in my pc when it arrives, to see if I still get the same results. Untill then some experimenting and coasters are on todays menu
"btw are you cable/dsl/adsl?"
I'm on a phat 2Mb ADSL connection :) |

| mono: ah , try changing the write driver (try normal atapi or the others) , i had a plpextor once and i recall the very same problem but it should work as its pretty much generic stuff.
cool about u beeing able to flash the drive within os4.
as for broadband, yes i'm on a highspeed one.
good luck with the burner.
ps: try to set the generic atapi driver as burner, might help , but its like too long since i touched this really (check your dir...) u also might want to reduce/set up the buffers and other settings (theese works from inside the prog but the device section doesnt)

I've think I've tried about every combination available, but still no luck Anyhoo, thanks a lot for you advice. I still have a couple of CDs that haven't been made coasters yet so I'll try some more times, before making my pc the official burning machine. Hmm, I've noticed that during test burn the HD is active all the time, but when I write for real, it's only HD activity during the buffer fillup. After that it's quiet. Wish I had 1GB of memory to use as buffer, then it'd prolly work
Cheers M. |
