| Well maybe not quite that dramatic! We do have articles but would be very interested in articles from "everyday" users, opinion pieces, hints & tips, reviews on your favourite (or worse) hardware/software. | Hi I have just emailed Robert about a possible article about using Amigas at my workplace, If Robert thinks it would appeal to many then I will try and put finger to keyboard (heaven help us ).
Some may be surprised that an Amiga can even try to compete with a PC in the Office, well it actually wins at my work.
well see what you guys at TA think.
cheers

| How about doing interviews?
With famous users of the past and present.
What is this and that person who was an important member of the Amiga effort up to these days, what is his/her relationship with the Amiga today? And people who are still avid supporters and fans of the platform and known within the community and beyond it, what are they up to? What does the Amiga mean to them today within their respective fields? What do they use it for today, how are they hoping to be using it in the future? And so forth..
Might be an interesting returning feature, even..good for a page or two every issue. _________________ A1G4XE, OS4-pre

| Ideas for articles!!!
What about an article on networking PC`s and Amiga`s.
I was never on the Internet with my A1200,and I want to get online with my A1. I have a PC which is online, which is used for Sage Line50 and a wages program. I would love to be able to network them, and share the Internet connection. But I know nothing about the Hardware, Software or the necessary procedures required.
Also my mother-in-law, who lives with us, has just had Broadband fitted(???), and one of things atvertised by AOL is sharing the Internet conection at the same time. How do we do that? Again I know nothing about the Hardware, Software or the necessary procedures required for this either.
Do both procedure use the same hardware or software, and can this be done on the A1.
Also what about setting up the SDK on the A1, what assigns do I need to set, what editor is best/preferable. I am trying to get my head around C, and I have a few Amiga related C books, and also some general begining C books. What I dont have is the enviroment to compile the example programs, although I have (supposedly) all the tools necessary in the SDK.
I know these are probably dumb questions/suggestions for articles, but the A1 has substantially expanded the capabilities open to me (over an AGA A1200), and my areas of interest have expanded also, mainly into photography/graphics and programming).
Hence the "dumb questions". Anyway that`s a few of my suggestions. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

| Have you guys covered a tutorial on ARexx? how to automate the minor, boring tasks? I tinkered a little with ARexx the other day and.. it didn't take too long before one realised the power you had at your fingertips there.
ARexx tutorial - beginners ARexx tips'n'tricks Advanced ARexx
Now that would be something.. and perhaps Python scripting! :) _________________ If I started a site about cow dung, and someone wanted to discuss dog poo, I wouldn't give a ####.

| I could give Total Amiga my Open Video Toaster article that was suppose to be in CAM ages ago. CAM has still never come out so I would like this long article to be in print somewhere. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer.

| sicky: what i really need to see is ,
AMIGA->AMIGA (network/drives)
covering Envoy , SMBFS and Samba.
i cant write such myself (why i need it).
but i can most likely do a few "how to skin (a cat? ) your workbench" but id like to see GUI and other things in os4 to be "complete" first.
i could write "from my POV" if thats of some interest , ie what happened to me since i upgraded to amigaone (for the second time , and why i ditched my first + why i ditched the pegasos etc) but i guess it would be more of a rant than anything else...
anyway i dunno....give me a email if you would like such..

An ARexx tutorial is an excellent idea (we haven't published one so far). I've dabbled in ARexx myself and got as far as writing a few RxMUI and AWNPipe based utilities but as I just learnt as I went along I don't think I'm up to writing a tutorial myself.
If anyone here feels like having a go, please get in touch.
Thanks for the suggestion,

That sounds interesting, feel free to send it along to me and I'll consider it for the next issue.
I take it you haven't commited to an exclusivity agreement with CAM?
Thanks

| Hi Toaks (sorry for spelling your name wrong BTW)

We have covered some of these networking issues before, particularly in issue 8 which had a network overview feature and an article on Samba printing (we didn't do a generic Samba set-up article because amigasamba.org already seemed to cover that quite well).
I'll consider something on SMBFS as that's very handy and simple to setup.
An Envoy article would be a good idea. I have a copy but haven't used it in anger so we'd need to find an Envoy guru to write it for us.

I'm sure those will be very popular when the time comes, thanks!

We're happy to publish personal opinions, but please try to be reasonably objective and factual. Make it a reasoned argument rather than a rant :)
Thanks

It all depends on the circumstances, of course, but I wouldn't mind having a go. I'd be interested in reading them, and equally interested in reading them even before they go into print, so that covers your second point.
As to the first? Well, I'm capable of asking questions. Just check out my first post in this thread: "How about doing interviews?" Now that was a good question, if you don't mind me saying so.
Though it does of course depend, like, what's the deadline? And who'd be the interviewee.. While I could e-mail anyone a "how'd ya get yerself into them there miggys," my ability to do indepth follow-ups related to the subjects specific Amiga-related field of expertise might be somewhat limited. _________________ A1G4XE, OS4-pre

"It all depends on the circumstances, of course, but I wouldn't mind having a go"
If you feel that way then I would consider having a go, interviewing is not my thing, Robert is far too busy and the other "professional journalists we had helping us have disappeard into the woodwork (probably got more important things like earning a living to do instead)!
"Though it does of course depend, like, what's the deadline?"
For this next issue (19) we need it in by end of first week of October.
"And who'd be the interviewee.."
Anyone who is currently developing for the Amiga, runs a business in the Amiga arena or is in some way involved with the Amiga community and is willing to be interviewed and put in print.... there, easy
BTW none of us are "Experts", we are just keen Amigans trying to produce a magazine that is worth reading. None of us are journalists or writers of any kind and have day jobs (well in my case day & nignt job as I work shifts), we just do it for the fun & knowing other people (hopefully) enjoy it! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card.

| Thanks to everyone who has responded to our request both in this thread and privately via e-mail. We have received three definite articles for the next issue and a number of good leads too.
Tthe suggestions for future articles were also useful, I have made a note of them and I'm sure many will appear in future issues.
BUT... if you're still thinking about contributing don't let this stop you, we have space to fill in the next issue and in future issues following that! If you feel you could contribute to the magazine get in touch.
Cheers,
