| Q: this whole .NET or .GNU or Apple .MAC is that all the same? It's good for what?
Has it to do to get access to your data from any place on this planet at any time? Nice idea but I don't like if my data is stored centrally on some servers where only some big organisations control it.
But then I could be wrong because I never looked up what .NET .GNU etc really is _________________ A computerworld without MS products and Windows! If I understand this .net thingy at all, it is more like java than .mac. I bet we'll need .net to access a lot of websites in the future.
But I like the .mac idea also. Everyone who buys OS4 could also get a gig online storage and username@amiga.net or similar. If my house burns down, I'll allways have my most important gigabyte backed up far away. _________________

| Ahem :) This news wasn't supposed to get out until at least I had the C# compiler working, I think there's no point announcing it until it works :) Yeah, I've managed to build Portable.NET on AmigaOS 3.9 (without garbage collector, but Boehm GC should work ok on Amigas), but since I've built it with ixemul, it doesn't really work. So far only simple tools such as the IL (Intermediate Language for .NET) assembler work, but not much else. Anyway, I've dropped ixemul already, and I hope to get back to hacking it by the end of this week.
Now, I'd really appreciate any help you could give me, especially with building Boehm GC, and building PNet on AmigaOne (I don't have one of these). I think the best way to get in touch with me and the rest of the dev team is to join the forums at http://getdotgnu.com
Oh yeah, and the TreeCC compiler-compiler (http://www.southern-storm.com.au/pnet_faq.html) for AOS3.9 can be downloaded from http://getdotgnu.com/downloads
-- Maciek Plewa
PS. Thanks Orgin for explanation; I don't have any more screenshots because as I said there's not much to show at the moment, but if everything goes as planned, you'll be able to just download the C# compiler by the end of this week. ASP.NET will most probably require GC to run well, and that's going to take much more time, that is unless you're willing to help :) |

| LOL :) I'm 99% sure that if it'll run on AOS3.9, then it should also run on AOS4.0, from what I've heard the API changes weren't too dramatic (it'd actually help to find some info on AOS4.0 API, do you know where can i find the docs?), all we need is for someone to recompile it. |

| Sponsor a programmer has sponsored a few programmers actually, but Im waiting on results before moving from pilot to something more glitzy, plus all the donations so far have been spent.
At the moment Im confident one programmer will return their board at the end and produce something but the rest.... hmmm.

| That's all well and good, but most .Net developers have to use MS SQL for their DB. Can't see that ever getting ported. did see a version of MYSQL a few yers ago, is this still available ? _________________ Dark Lord Design Wicked Solutions For Damned Problems

| Interesting... I was expecting to see a lot of anti-Microsoft flames (for those who don't know, .net is Microsoft's answer to Java) but instead I see a lot of support for the author. I'm never going to figure out you crazy lot
Well, let me add my voice to those congratulating - we wanted a good office suite on the Amiga, and this is the best way of making sure that this office suite will be MS Office (we might have to wait until Longhorn though...) |

Office will not run on the Amiga just because someone has cloned the .NET runtime on the Amiga. MS Office will contine to hook directly into Windows' APIs and the new Longhorn Avalon APIs. The only way we will be running Microsoft Office on Amiga is with a Macintosh PPC or Windows 98 emulator. |
