Software News   Software News : Amigift v1.1 released
posted by MikeB on 3-Oct-2004 20:21:04 (3160 reads)
A new OS4 (beta?) compatible version of Amigift has been released.

Release Notes

Update: Unlike originally reported on the amigift-users mailinglist the version 1.1 still has issues with AmigaOS4. Also a patch is now available which should solve the "Low stack size for nList class" problem.

When I try to run the new version there is an error message that tells me that the stack of the ramlib process is too small (6144bytes) and that I should increase it. Does anyone know how to do this?

It has been mentioned in the amigift elist. There appears no user soluition, it looks like it needs a bug fix.

I like the look of Amigift, I'd love to use it but every time I do I get this really unhelpful message----

STB error !!

Does anyone know what it is and how to fix it?

It appears there is still some incompatibility in the OS4 version.

Namely A socketbase tag error.

However another message stated that it was a GUI error and everything shou,d run alright.

Toaks is the expert on the AW side thast should know something about it -- unfortunately PMs do not work on my browser at the moment.

Team

Time for "Darren's pet hate for the week"

I wish people would include a useful description of what an application actually does!!!

Not everyone is familiar with classic Amiga applications, some of us actually need help in determining what applications are useful.

Quote:
amigift is a ready-to-run giFT Daemon to the AmigaOS platform (and compatible), including a native MUI Client.
from Amigift Web Site

WTF...

What is a giFT do???

Come on... give some of us newbies a break with at least a short summary of what each application is actually USED FOR, without cryptic acronyms.

Ok... I've taken my Valium now...

Regards
Darren

I could not agree more, but there is always a problem knowning what people don't know in order to tell them.

Until a week or two ago I had never heard of P2P (Peer to peer networking) across the internet (something like a subnet).

It has been there for some time and works by people allowning a directory on their machine to be open to people using the same communication software.

It definitely has some important uses, and it struck me it was very much like the old buletin boards we used years ago (BI before the internet).

Amigift allows (apparently because I cannot get mine working) to set up P2P plus hook into some public P2P networks (GNUIlla is one for instance).

Now the software does work but not yet on OS4 -- it looks good and looks as though it will do what it should (hopefully it has AREXX ports as well).

There is not much documentation (for people like me who are relatively new to the whole thing).

@Gregs & @PowerAmiga2002

Yes, that is exactly the summary and description I (& other newbies) are looking for....

Thank you.
