Software News   Software News : Petunia integrated into AmigaOS4
   posted by Rachy on 17-Oct-2004 14:24:42 (3422 reads)
Probably many of you already suspected as I suggested with the hint on my web page: Petunia dynamic recompiler based emulator (aka JIT emulator) has finally been successfully integrated into AmigaOS4.

For more information please check out my web page, especially the FAQ part:

Project Petunia page

Thank you for your patience, it was a long year, but finally we are at the home straight.

Thanks! I really hope that the final version of OS4 will be out soon, before the end of the year.

Ah, great news!

I think the emulation is pretty fast already, with the latest update and all ... FinalWriter really, REALLY flies even in interpreted emulation!

But of course, it can always get even better ...

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

@Rachy

Cheers, thanks for correcting it for me.

It was just before I had to rush off for work, and because I see it as big news for us, I wanted to approve it asap, but was unable to do anything it because I was so rushed for time. Thanks again

@KimmoK

It is rather big (around 1 MB) because of the huge instruction lookup tables. I hope I can change this in the future.

It depends on what you mean on "kernel". If you mean only the core kernel, then it is small. But if you mean everything which is included in the kicklayout then it might vary on each system. Petunia is a kickstart module, so you can simply remove it from the kicklayout and then it wouldn't be not used then.

We move another step closer to the goal. The things that keep it from being done are being eliminated one by one. Great work, much thanks.
