You will now be able to use up to 8 drives on your system!

How's that? Does the SiL 680IDE controller allow 8 drives to be used?
Or do they mean by using more cards at once? Or the onboard IDE and the PCI SiL680 IDE controller?

@mbilla

I imagine they mean by using the VIA's IDE as well. It would be interesting to know what would happen if you were to try to use two SiI680 cards though.

Does this announcement need to be on the front page?

Trivial complaint perhaps...
But I think most of the A1 distributors have already found some access to Sil 680 cards, mine certainly has and I am considering buying one from him. Do we post a new announcement for each distributor that manages to get a supply?

You can attach max to 4 sil0680 controllers into your A1! That is max 16 IDE UDMA (ATA133!) drives + 4 PIO4 drives. That is 20 in total! Not bad, eh?

cheatX:i dont remeber seeing that there was multiple sil cards support in the latest driver...

anyway what russ meant here was that you can use the VIA (4 drives) and the SIL (4 Drives) at the same time so that means 8 drives right`?

@hairyneanderthal,

I usually don't complain myself, but this didn't really feel like news. Lots of resellers have had the Sil in stock for weeks..

Well well.. Nice to see that things are ahappening in Amiga Land again

I see. 8 IDE drives is fairly good. You can attach a backup disk to VIA ports and save SIL UDMA ports for other use.

@shoe:

Price is good, though. I just purchased one for 188NOK + taxes (235NOK total). And that was way cheaper than in any stores (since the stores buy from the same place I do ). That's 29USD before taxes...

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.
