Software News   Software News : 'Tamar needs new land!' IV
posted by PressTamar on 25-Oct-2004 20:36:51 (2486 reads)
For the fouth time, we start our event "Tamar needs new land!". Once again, all of Tamar has been settled, and new land has to be found for new realms. Don't miss that opportunity! It will take place on November 1th. Start with other players under equal conditions, and show that your a contender for the rank of emperor!

Explore regions of Tamar that no man has set foot on before. Meet unique challanges like dragons, undead and other creatures, and prove yourself in the contest with other human players.

Tip 1:
Our price of 250 Euro for the first emperor among the realms created after January 1st 2004 has still not been claimed. (You'll find the detailed rules in the ToT forum).

Tip 2:
If you enter the keyword "Shareware" in the field for the serial number while registering, you can start playing for free. A turn fee will only apply once you got deeper into the game. Also please add the remark that you want to start on November 1th.

Wishing you a lot of fun, with best regards,

Your ToT-Team &
Wolfen

I've decided to give it a go this time . It seems to run OK on OS4, although not perfectly...I got a freeze when I tried to turn on sound, which is not too serious. The freeze when I tried clicking on taxes is worse, though... Anyway, I've only tried it once, it might not happen every time. I'll look into it some more when I get back from the uni.

Guess everybody is well into this game by now...I'm probably going to get destroyed fairly quickly...

Seems to work fine now that I've upgraded to version 0.52. See you in Tamar!

I don't think it's that pricey...

Quote:
Starter Set - Game CD, Audio CD, Video CD, 300 turns 59,90 euros
80 turns 20 euros (around 2,5 month/starterprice)
300 turns 50 euros (normal price)
1000 turns 100 euro (lowered price)

I think a turn lasts two days? So fifty euros should keep you playing for quite a while. I'll probably get the starter set if I enjoy the trial. That's 60€ for three CDs, a printed manual (probably in German, though), and well in excess of 1,5 years of online play. Not a bad deal.

I've been promoting this game to my neighbors today, think I might have swayed two of them. They really liked the idea of not having to be online all the time to stay in the game, as well as the graphical interface. I think there's a real market for games like these. I used to play Planetarion in the olden days, but eventually quit, because:
*It took way too much of my time. Sometimes I even had to get up at night to do stuff.
*It was plagued by vast alliances which completely dominated everything.
*A large number of the more influential players seemed to be 15-year-olds with vast personality disorders.
*Because of the alliances, the developers started to make odd rules to protect weaker players, effectively removing the last fun bits. Then they started charging subscription fees.

Haven't played online strategy games since. Until now. ToT seems to be a better concept, I just hope it plays as good as it looks. And that the crowd is a bit more mature.

@Kay

That does not sounds so bad, I thought you went through turns faster than that.

I'll give it a go .

Okay, I've read the manual and the webpage now, and it seems it is actually 1 turn per day...still not bad, though. I also read that you can get free turns "through successful and intelligent actions", whatever that means. Anyways, the first turns now are free, so no harm checking it out.

I've sent in my registration now, and also signed up at the forums. Even made a post.

The Larp video was fun. Wish I understood the language.
"Kiss my shiny metal chest" was funny

Hi !

My name is Martin Wolf, i am the programmer of that game. If there are any questions regarding Tales of Tamar dont hesitate to ask me.

I would be glad to see some more english speaking players in Tamar. If you will give it a try, just use the keyword 'Shareware' for the registration. Then you can play a month or two for free.

My email address is: eternity at pride.de

Regards
Wolfen

You can download version 0.50 from Aminet (search for "tot"). That version's not quite stable under OS4, though, so you should download the 0.52 update from the Tamar website as well.
