Great.
I like these step-by-step instructions.

Now if s.o. could write an instruction guide on how to install AOS4 and YDL (Yellow Dog Linux) on one or 2 HDs with the possibility to use the Uboot menu to either boot AOS or YLD.

BTW s.o. has ported Mandrake 10.x Linux to PPC on MACs. Any possibility to boot it on A1?

Very cool. I really liked the UBoot article (have to read that again, more carefully). This is interesting stuff. Keep it coming, your work is appreciated!

It should be possible, but you need to install Mandrake manually, since there is no A1-Mandrake installer atm.

The guides seems easy and fine btw

So how would you go about installing mandrake manually???

I've tried YDL 3, but when booting the MAI boot cd (and sometimes when it startes the installer) the whole process just crashes)

Mark

to install mandrake or gentoo, you need to do the same as you did for debian : you need to setup a prepboot partition.
dont ask me how, I am moreorless happy with debian and I have (and still) struggle enough with it to bother with another distribution that will have exactly the same flaws (no DMA and no 3D acceleration) because they all use the same kernel.

@mbilla

Nice to hear about Mandrake 10 making it to PPC. I've had Mandrake installed on my PC, and in fact have used it the most of any Linux distro. I find it to be very nice. I'm looking forward to having that as an option for my uA1.

@Ryu

Thanks for continuing to update and make IB such a nice AmigaOne and OS4 resource center. Your work does not go unappreciated.

They now do have a liveCD with Mandrake 10. Insert CDROM, boot PC and you're into Linux without installation. Just like the knoppix CDROM but with a better hardware compatibility.

It's even possible to install the liveCD onto a memorystick and boot Mandrake Linux via USB stick. Which apparently is possible on even secure PCs with password protection. But I haven't tried that.

IMHO Mandrake Linux seems to be the easiest distro to install on PCs and it is the distro which interacts and recognizes most PC hardware, even very exotic ones.

I really would like to have it on my A1 too.

I don't have my AmigaOne yet... but having resources like this is so reassuring to see.

Thanks to all involved.
