Software News   Software News : Digital Almanac III Sourcecode released
   posted by _Steve_ on 4-Mar-2005 17:03:12 (3696 reads)
Achim Stegemann has released the complete sourcecode to his Astronomical Program Digital Almanac III.

The source code is FREEWARE! The author claims NO copyright on any parts of the code. If you are interested in programing astronomical software, feel free to use the code as you like.

The price for being freeware is, that the author gives NO support about the code!

The archive contains the source code only! Simply recompiling the code does not make the program work as you require the full CD-ROM version with all the data for full access.

You can download the code from Aminet.

  2. Obsolete. Astronomy.

This ought to help

@Steve:
Astrology is obsolete IMHO

I just quoted the dictionary in its entirety.

Personally I use both words interchangably, as essentially they are the same thing.

Seriously??

Astronomy is a branch of physics that studies celestial bodies and the universe (think NASA, the Hubble Space telescope and observatories when you here the word astronomy)

Astrology is a PSUEDO science that claims to be able to make predictions based upon celestial positions (think Signs of the Zodiac and palm readers when you here the word astrology)

They are not the same thing. Not even close.

Digital Almanac is definitely an Astronomy program.

Fixed to astronomy. The author himself uses astronomical himself anyhow .

@Bodie:
No problem.

@Sandpiper

The two dictionary definitions I looked up were practically the same hence my original statement. I apologise if I made the wrong assumption.

No need. A lot of people confuse the two terms. I was just trying to provide some clarification. I don't know how Mr Stegemann and astronomers who may be lerking out there think about being called astrologers

Grrr. As an astronomer I take objection to that statement. Astronomy is science astrology is mumbo jumbo fortune telling !

I think I will download this myself.

I have the source for Digital Universe and permission to develop it for OS4 but there were a few things from DA that I quite liked and maybe could incorporate into it

Of course I do need a crash course in C and MUI programming for OS4 first

Hi!

Is someone already working on an OS 4 port ?

I got the source some while ago from Achim to do an OS 4 port (sadly I never found the time to finish it - and do not have the time now). If someone wants to do a port, contact me by email, I did already do some part of the work (I assume the source Achim released now will still be the same he sent me some while ago).
