@Ken

I don't like the folder icons. They're too big for starters, and the perspective looks wrong.

Most of the other icons are really nice though. I won't be replacing my entire icon set yet, but I have picked a few odd icons for various things. I want to see what the new official OS4 set looks like.

Chris

(edited to rephrase, because it looked like I was just having a go at you - sorry about that)

@Chris_Y

The folders are a "forced perspective" look that I came up with in response to some of the more dramatic 'png icons' -- I wanted to see if I could make a 'standard icon' look as good as a png icon (or at least close). Some people just don't like them. Oh, well.

I'm anticipating the release of the OS4 icons as well (although I don't think they'll be available to those of us WITHOUT OS4) -- hopefully, my icons will blend well with them (obviously, the drawers won't) -- maybe I'll do an "add-on" set of drawers in the OS4 style once I get a look at them. We'll see.

Mason (the "official" OS4 icon-master) has also released a set of 256 color icons you might be interested in (on OS4Depot, etc) -- they're much closer to the original Glow Icons in size and style. Had these been released BEFORE I started my set, there wouldn't be a 'Ken's Icons'.

Later.

Yes, and that's exactly what I don't like about the PNG icon sets. Those drawers really don't fit in with the rest of the icon designs.

Yes, I've seen those. Although nice, I think yours are better (they have better definition). But then, Martin's 256 colour set is called "abandonmi" for a reason.

Chris

@Chris_Y
I found Ken's Icons original, but "compatible" with the old glow icons. It is impossible that everybody like them, anyway the drawer aren't too big in 1280x1024. I like the design and the colors, and i'm happy to have these icons instead of png icons which can't have activated image.

@JonasH
Yea i agree, more of these icons

@ikir

I feel I'm repeating myself here, so this is my last post on the subject.

I like the majority of these icons. Some of them are a little abstract for my liking (what is that Multiview one supposed to be?), but they are high quality, well designed and well drawn.

However, I don't like the drawers. Again, you have mentioned PNG icons. I haven't yet seen a PNG icon set that I like. If the drawers and PNG icons are going hand-in-hand then maybe that accounts for why I don't like them?

The other icons (especially the def_ icons) are nice.

@Chris_Y

Heh, heh . . . maybe you had to be a kid growing up in the 60-70's to know what the Multiview icon is -- you're not the first one to wonder what the heck it is!

As for the drawers -- it would be a pretty boring world if we ALL liked the same things -- you've paid me more than enough compliments to make me happy!

BTW, there will be a more "traditional" Multiview (and Utilities drawer) in the next update.

Later.

@Ken
I could have "smoothed" out the glow, but frankly, I LIKE it!

Don't smooth out the glow. The old glow style is pretty and this is so Amiga
specific in opposite to PNG's selecting style.

@Ken

What is that taskbar on the bottom of your Workbench?

@r-tea

The taskbar is "Start Menu" (heavily customized to my tastes!)

Start Menu

This is IMO the best icons pack I have seen for AmigaOS3 and OS4 so far! Great work Ken!

They really have an Amiga feeling to them, yet they look modern.

@r-tea

Most people around here don't care for "start bars" -- so I doubt you'll ever see it as standard-equipment on AmigaOS.

Personally, I think it's one of the greatest ideas since the scroll-wheel -- both of which I thought were silly ideas until I "used" them!

When I get a little farther along with my current iconset, I'm going to do a set of "mini-icons" for the start bars -- maybe that'll "convert" a few people.

You've probably heard this before, but...

Great set of icons!!!

There's just one problem. You have a lot of icons for a program's drawer, but not usually for the program itself. For example, you have a very nice icon for a "Monopoly" drawer, but none for the Monopoly program itself. I know, you only have so much time, it's just a thought.

Regardless, thanks for the icons!

Hi Ken

i agree . . StartMenu (customized here too) is really useful.

The only annoying thing, is those "bubble help" option in the latest version (1.30). If the mouse pointer goes on the taskbar area, its a problem to write something (i.e write/edit/repling a post or so).

Do you know a way to disable it?

Thanks

EDIT- and yes, please . . . small icons for StartMenu . . . its a nightmare to scale it to 16x16 or so without "destroy" it

@RacerX

'Ken's Icons' is very much a "work-in-progress" -- this version focused primarily on Workbench icons.

The next version will be a minor update that will include about 40 icons that weren't finished in time for this release (plus some "fixes" for existing icons).

After that, I will "populate" all those empty drawers (including Monopoly!).
