Software News   Software News : DropWin - 3D windowing capabilities for the Amiga (April fool)
posted by Mason on 31-Mar-2005 22:40:42 (7777 reads)
DropWin will bring 3D windowing capabilities to the Amiga Workbench to offer a far richer user experience for work and play. But, it's not only about looks, it's about creating an engaging user experience, one that can make communications and collaboration even easier.

Applications are no longer stacked upon each other with flat icons and buttons to represent them; they are viewed in a 3D environment and manipulated as 3D objects. We are moving beyond the boundaries of old environments to revolutionize the use of the Workbench.

DropWin is being created to work with AmigaOS 3.9 (UAE or Amithlon recommended) and AmigaOS 4 in a Powericons environment. When completed, it will work alongside applications designed for a 2D window system, without application modifications. DropWin is reinventing the way you think about desktop computing.

DropWin is still in early development and is generating a continual flow of new ideas and innovations. A Developer Release enabling software developers to get involved in the open source project is available now.

Just in time for my club demo next week.
My uA1 almost got beat by a donated A1000
one meeting, not anymore methinks.

Can we stack those windows horizontally too?

I think what Amiga applications need most is
configurability. Let the user come up with ways
to use it that weren't thought of originally.

This is nice just pushing things sideways like this.

Wow!

Quick! Someone patent this idea before M$ or Apple rip it off and claim it as their own...or worse, claim a patent on it!

;^)

This is really cool! I'm glad to see we're keeping up with the 'big boys' (Solaris JavaDesktop, Linux luminousity, Enlightenment etc.)
This will raise a few eyebrowses indeed. Nice job Manson!

Incredible! Any chance you'll publish a roadmap for this?

From: going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Two things on my mind at the moment regarding this:

First off, any chance this will be made a part of OS4.0 (or any later version)?

And second, is anyone else having problems with MUI windows? The graphics become scrambled whenever I use it on a MUI window where I have an image file as a window backdrop (but not otherwise). Strange...

Good work, especially because there is not a big, worldwide developer group behind that. But in my eyes, nothing until now beats Project looking glass. THAT ONE is a real 3D environment. You should have a look at that.

Has anyone tried it in 3.9?
I'm beginning to think this is a joke/fake.. But so many have already said it's working. I think we should get rid of April fools day, this day sucks.

[edit] And the files "Install" and "DropWin" is the exact same size. About 15bytes. ??
