| Is there any way of transfering files between the Amiga and Windows using the Remote Desktop Client?
I'm pretty sure that the answer is "no," but no harm in asking. |

| Sorry, last post in thread. Guys, if you're using rdesktop, _please_ take a few minutes to let them know. This is a cool piece of software, and we need more like it. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!

| @PEB No, you have to set up samba, so you can copy your files easily using Remote Desktop. That works pretty good. Or you want to set up a ftp server, .... |

| Greg- the link to RDesktop team is still off, but th e survey link works now.
Peg- definately samba is your friend here, although it may be 'different' to set up, depending on what you're used to. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!

| I wonder if anyone can help me, I'm sure I'm just doing something dumb...
I installed amissl v2 sometime ago so I can view https pages with ibrowse, but RDesktop says that I don't have amissl.library installed. I think that RDesktop needs v1 of the library, but I don't want to have both of them installed at the same time (I don't want a repeat of DLL hell!) and the library consists of several files, not just one .library I can copy around. Any ideas? |

I was afraid of that. I tried setting up Samba a while back, and all my efforts met with much frustration and no success. |

Well, samba may be your friend; but it has chosen me as its mortal enemy. |

Well Samba and i aren't what i would call friends, but we agreed to accept each other I've now a working config (not that i really know what i've done) )and if i search for the amiga ip(WinXP won't find it for himself) windows can access the amiga files. If you manage to get samba running, i could send you the config file, maybe will help you. |

I'll let you know if I ever dare to tame Samba again.
Though, I will probably just invest in a large-capacity USB drive (the mass storage device works so smoothly in OS4). |

If you're doing remote logins with rdesktop, not just on the same LAN, Samba won't give you ANY more filesharing than say a dead fish would do. Unfortunately that's a fairly typical application for me... _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

The AmiSSL v1/v2 problem is a real PIA unfortunately. I prefer AWeb over IBrowse, but currently AWeb only works with AmiSSL v1 (which I couldn't get it to recognise on my system , so I installed v2 and use IBrowse for the few sites requiring SSL I visit with the Miggy). Fortunately, someone's working on AmiSSL v2 compatibility.
It's odd this port of remote desktop only accepts AmiSSL 1 though. |

When AmiSSL V3 comes out for OS4 we will upgrade RDesktop to support it. In the mean time you could use the 68K version which does not require AmiSSL specifically.
@ All, so far we've got about 250 survey responses, and many of you asked specific questions in the comment field. In another week or so I will publish the statistical results of the survey and try to answer any questions.
Thanks for taking time to fill out the survey!

Nah, I'm using the French port (with proper French keyboard and everything) and I'll be blowed if I'm going back to 68K! AmiSSL v1 it is, hard cheddar for iBrowse |
