Events   Events : AmigaEast cancelled for now
posted by Russ on 1-May-2005 16:40:53 (2617 reads)
We regret to inform you all that the AmigaEast Show May 28-29 2005 has been cancelled.

Many people and companies had expressed interest in the show, but the money did not come in to support the $6000 needed to run the show. As a result of not being able to put the additional $2500 prepayment the time slot was sold to another event in the hotel. All the work and logistics had been done, but too little money came in. There is still a possibility one could happen at the end of the year but it looks as though I would need to front most of the money myself. Anyone who gave a credit card # in to order tickets for the show or banquet have not been charged anything and any checks have not been cashed and will be disposed of properly. I would still like to look forward to doing another show in the northeast of the US and am open to ideas.

This is really sad. Hope you make it next time. But I must say that it looks like a lot of money. As a comparison - last years AmiGBG started with a budget of 3000SEK (about $420)
But then again, it was a big risk to take. The final bill was a bit higher. Thankfully this year our starting budget is a bit bigger.

Sad to hear..

Perhaps you could find a cheaper location for the event if you will try another time? Sounds like a big budget for an Amiga Show anno 2005.

@ Shoe..

Yeah, We at EMAG know EXACTLY what you mean !!

I guess thats the good thing about Poms... They DO all muck in and help out.

Bad news all the same.

Hope they can do a show a few months later

Sad news, but i agree with the others, $6000 is a lot of money. Should be possible to find a cheaper place.

Major bummer.

I myself and a friend were looking forward to this event and we had never been to New York before. Oh well, at least it's now more likely that I will attend AmiWest or AmiGBG again this year.

My freind and I were looking forward to this since it was somewhat local. I was even hoping to show what I was working on. I originally thought the amount of money for the show was rather pricey (ie. the $6000) but I've run conventions locally and while 2300 square foot is tiny, it might be like $2000+ (But I would think less actually). So if you consider two days, that makes it $4000, then if you had to get a seperate ballroom for the banquet, that will tack on some more $. I still think $6000 is rather high, but then again it's New York and each hotel has their own quirks.

I'm REALLY sorry that it fell through. I TRUELY hope that your able to arrange something later on this year!

Arthur

(I'm on my own search for a hotel again actually, so wish me luck!)

Hmm, that is why i loved Petro, he did lots of nice
things for the community. It is time that Amiga Inc.
pics up that role again and do some real support for
the community by supporting and sponsoring the
community and their events. We are the foundation!!!

Btw. the link on the Amiga Inc. site goes to this link:
http://www.mrhardwarecomputers.com/pages/aeprinfo.htm
Better ad this info of cancelling the event there also.

Better luck next time guys. Keep on going.
