Software News   Software News : Apache web server for OS4
   posted by elwood on 8-May-2005 23:20:32 (3516 reads)
Hi all,

This is my initial port of Apache 1.3.33 to AmigaOS 4.0. It includes
support of PHP 4.3.0 and MySQL 3.23.49.
It is still "work in progress", but I think it will be usefull

Get Apache 1.3.33 on OS4depot.

Edgar Schwan.

This is an important port for OS4, and not before time. Thanks to Edgar for this.

Perhaps its time we have some more OS4 news beyond "when it's done" this is not another M$ OS, there is no stop-gap for us Amiga users. Making do with beta 4.0 or 3.9 is like M$ holding their customers with a Windows 3.1, this is not commercially a good idea. My admiration to all the hopeful A1/OS4pre users out there for being patient.

Thanks again for this valuable piece of software, may people continue to develop in the hope we will read "OS4 is released" on here sometime this year?

The software situation continues to look brighter each day.
I see Edgar Schwan has been busy on MySQL clients too, now just waiting for the server.

Thank you to all the programmers.

Cheers,
Tim

This is good...would love to know if a 2.0.X is in the works by anyone, as it's pretty quickly replacing 1.3.X installs nowadays..?

Thanks a lot for that.
I love to see all these software on OS4. And the fact that this is a Unix program shows that it's possible to deal with Unixish stuff like fork() and its friends.
Coders, look at the code of this port. It will probably be interesting to port other apps.

Thanks Edgar.

@all

Thankx for your comments. Good to hear, that it was worth doing it

@Herewegoagain

A 2.x-version is not planned. At the moment I can't see any advantages. First
I want to complete the 1.3.33 port. Hope I can

@T_Power

Yes I'm working on the server, but it is a really hard job for me. Can't promise, that I can complete it. Maybe we have to use the old ixemul-version - don't know, so let's see.

Edgar

I dont mind about higher version of Apache but what about the newer versions of php 5.0.x (4.3.10) and MySQL 4.1.x?

its hard to develope apps for latest php+apache on old versions...

I believe the next OS4.0 Pre update will have native support for ixemul in the kernel, this should be a big help in porting *nix apps.

But again thanks for the current work.

Cheers,
Tim

Make it MySQL 5.0.

But the most crucial question remains. Is there Unicode support in AmigaOS4 ?

hmm stop, think, think again and than speak, ok?

# MySQL 4.1 -- Generally Available (GA) release (recommended)
# MySQL 5.0 -- Development release (use this for previewing and testing new features)

I hope that info taken directly from mysql.com web is clear enough...
I dont know any server hosting company offering MySQL 5 to use right now
So what version we need?

I agree on that.

PHP 4.3.0 is too old and obsolete. From 4.3.0 to actual release (4.x branch) there were so many changes and security fix that it makes very difficult to write modern php code with the actual amiga version. It's not impossible, but you are more likely to make errors
And a good (and updated) MySQL server is as important as an up to date PHP.

Anyway it's a good start, thank you Edgar for the job and keep up the good work!
